2 Degrees at EC

Here's where I stand...
I have both experience in Business and Liberal arts so am studying for both degrees at this time. (Of course I have only been accepted for one degree and will apply for second degree after I'm done)

Are the ALEKS courses able to be used for both Liberal arts and the Business degree, but just distributed into the different requirements?

Or once I complete the ALEKS, I can only use them for one degree and not have them applied for my second degree?

One of the forum members talked to the people at EC about dual degrees and credits.

Basically 90 (75%) credits can be shared from one degree in one school to another degree. So, you can use ALEKs to cover the math reqs of both degrees.

I'd looked at doing this myself, as far as getting a BSLS (With Major) first and then using the credits towards a BSBA, and it worked out kinda nicely because everything but the major for the BSLS would fit in the Business degree, and basically leave the Business degree's core components to fill up. (IE The general areas and the electives would cross over)

I just finished my first of two BS degrees at EC. As long as your degrees are from different "schools" at EC you can do this. It is correct that you would need roughly 30 "new" credits for the second degree. The sticky part is that none of the previously used credits can be applied to your core of the second degree. My BSLS was going to have a focus in psychology and health professions, but because my second degree would be in health sciences, they can't give me a health professions focus or all those applied professional credits would be lost and it would in essence be a duplicate degree in duplicate core areas. As such I ended up getting my BSLS with a focus in psychology and a depth in health professions. Since a depth isn't a core area I can still then go on to get my BSHS and re-use the same applied professional credits.

Now with your math credits, you should be ok, because I believe the requirement for the LA is different than the business side, just make sure business isn't designated as an area of focus or major on your LA degree and you should be golden to do a second business degree at EC. I would make sure you tell your advisor up front that you plan to pursue two same level degrees so you can be assured they will do the best distribution of your credits. This was a real tricky situation, since I was basically enrolled and working on both degrees at the same time. Both of my advisors had to work together to make sure it worked out ok. I just have my fingers crossed until I move back into the school of HS to finish up in April and see my revised status report and transcript eval.

So I can have the 4 ALEKS maths done (12 cr) and use towards both degrees (as long as business isn't a focus or major) in the Liberal Studies degree

Well... Depends on what you include in those 12 credits.

EC allows max of 3 college level courses under the level of calculus to a degree requirement.

If you're including Statistics (Either Intro or Business) you should be OK.

The best way to maximize the credits though would be to take 2 of the ALEKs math courses (One has to be Precalc level to cover your business requirement,) one of the Stats courses (well, they're pretty much the same course, except the questions and examples are worded differently,) and the College Mathematics Clep. That way you come out with 15 credits in Math/Natural Sciences, instead of the 12 you'd be limited to just through ALEKs.
