I graduated with honors at my high school and received one of those golden cord things at the awards ceremony, I had no idea what it meant and thought they gave them to everyone. I'm pretty sure I was going to throw them in the trash when my dad took them from me. I remember it looked like something bought at a dollar store. Can't believe I'm only finding out they're special now when I'm in my 30's.
