I'd argue all degrees have some merit but I think it comes down to the supply of grads with a particular degree entering the workforce vs the demand for people with that degree. We clearly don't need a large percentage of the population getting history degrees, but we don't want history grads to drop to zero either. How do we get the universities and employers to "meet in the middle?" Maybe ensuring humanities degrees include some more courses that teach "practical" skills for employment outside of the major?
