This is straight up wrong....From Harvards website:

"Harvard University offers the following degrees in Extension Studies:

Associate in Arts
Bachelor of Liberal Arts
Master of Liberal Arts

It is acceptable, therefore, to list the ALM degree on your rÃsumà in the following manner:

Harvard University, Master of Liberal Arts in Extension Studies, Concentration in history

Unacceptable: Harvard University, MA in History"

The Extension School is one of the 13 colleges that makes up Harvard University. To argue that an ES degree is something other than a Harvard degree is rediculous and blatantly uninformed. What else would you call it? Its conferred by Harvard University.

Harvard goes on to say "Yes. ALM graduates are Harvard alumni and alumnae, and the program of study is in every way as challenging as that of graduate degree programs in other Harvard schools."

The diploma reads UNIVERSITAS HARVARDIANA; then, after the graduate’s name comes Magistri in Artibus Liberalibus Studiorum Prolatorum (Master of Liberal Arts in Extension Studies).

The ES program is not Harvard College...but then neither is the School of Divinity Harvard College, likewise HBS is not Harvard College. All are none the less Harvard University.

Note that the Extension School is the only one that offers associates degrees, accepts up to 12 hours via CLEP, and has a short but significant residency requirement for all degree's. There is no shame in a degree from the Extension School...in many ways it may be one of the best deals in American higher education.

I could have worded it better, but everyone will know that you did not go through the same admissions process as other Harvard students. If you did, your degree would have come from Harvard College. The fact that the extension school is the only one that accepts CLEPs makes it even more different from the rest of Harvard University. Penn State makes no distinction between its online and on campus programs. It's just me personally, but I'd rather earn my degree by distance at a school that accepts me as an equal and I wouldn't have to deal with accusations that I'm trying to pass off a Harvard extension school degree as being as prestigious as a Harvard College degree.
