Photography and Fine Art at COSC
Posted by: amielynne - 01-08-2014, 11:32 AM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - No Replies

Hello,

I haven't posted in awhile; all is well and my studies are going great! I hope everyone else is doing great too! I am currently working towards my Biology/Psych degree at COSC. I am needing a fine art /literature course and I was wondering if anyone knows if a Digital Photography class would fulfill this? I am an amateur photographer and I think this would be a fun class, even though I probably know much of the class content already. The class is VCA (Visual Communication Arts) 120: Digital Photography from my local community college. I emailed my adviser, but haven't received a response yet. Thanks for the help everyone!

  Transferring

I was wondering if someone knew more on this topic?

I'm trying to get my Associates first from a local college that accepts unlimited CLEPS/DSST. I'd say more than half my degree will be CLEPS/DSST. Now when I want to transfer to a four year university, will they take my Associates as a whole, or will they pick it apart and see half the degree when from CLEP/DSST courses and only award me with what they accept? Basically if I take the Accounting DSST, my college gives me credit for "ACG2001 Financial Accounting", how do most colleges look at this? As I got credit from my college for completing this course or as a CLEP.

TESC BSBA ~ Is there a Capstone required or not?
Posted by: Can219 - 01-08-2014, 09:02 AM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (20)

I'm so confused!! I've been told yes, no then yes regarding a Capstone Requirement at TESC. I'm pursuing a BSBA in Human Resource Management and Org Behavior. I heard it's not required for BSBA's? Is this true or not? TIA

Chiropractor or Physical Therapist for Tennis Elbow
Posted by: taylor - 01-07-2014, 08:43 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (5)

I've had lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) for almost 6 months now. Too many roundoffs, front handsprings, and snatches with poor technique has finally caught up to me. It really sucks!!! I've iced it, rested it, tried rehab exercises on Youtube, and gotten acupuncture from 3 different acupuncturists and no pain relief in sight. I even went to a chiropractor who was well reviewed on Yelp and he didn't provide much relief either. Most recently I've been going to a chiropractor/fellow crossfitter but those sessions haven't helped much either and if it did very little. Now I'm considering going to a well reviewed physical therapist but he charges 4X more per sessions than the chiropractors. If it works great but I guess I'm a bit of a skeptic and would be extremely annoyed paying 4X more and feeling the same. Anybody have experience with this?

Experimental Psychology - TESC edited textbook requirement
Posted by: JBtesc - 01-07-2014, 04:56 PM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (8)

Yet another course that requires a TESC specific "can only be bought from TESC's bookstore" textbook.

I am getting really annoyed with this.

Has anyone here taken this course and if so, how necessary was it to have this TESC specific "study guide"?

The mentor says that every written assignment requires it.

I already bought the textbook and the publishers study guide for it, don't really want to buy another book period, let alone at their bookstores ridiculous prices. Amazon doesn't seem to have it.

I found this program today, and I'm kind of excited about it. This program is CACREP accredited.

Hello, currently enrolled in Patten Uni in the BA Leadership — Entrepreneurship program, thinking about transferring over to TESC, for their BS Business Admin. Does anyone know how well Patten credits transfer to TESC? any help would be appreciated

Back at it and have some TESC and SL Questions
Posted by: Mhamilton5 - 01-07-2014, 12:28 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

I was making some really nice progress, but over the last 6 months or so, I have been in the middle of selling and buying a home, packing, Disney, unpacking, and the chaos of it all during the holidays. With all of the distractions behind me, I am determined to finish my last 50 credits in order to get my BSBA from TESC. I applied during the summer, but my 6 months have passed and will most likely be under the new policies.

With all of that said, I would appreciate some insight on the things I have missed:

- Are there any big changes at TESC that I should be aware of?
- I have noticed the SL has added several business classed that I need, and would like to know if I should go that route, or CLEP?
- How or what effects has SL's new policy on proctored exams affected things?

Any other feedback is greatly appreciated...

Happy New Year!!

Mike

Problem transferring SL Lab Courses to COSC
Posted by: J_T - 01-07-2014, 09:09 AM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (25)

My unofficial advising worksheet was made available this morning at COSC's Acorn portal. :hurray: It's still missing the last SL transcript I sent in (for the last 4 SL courses I took: Anthropology, Business, Am. Gov. and Microbiology w/Lab)... but I'm assuming they will be added soon.

Everything else looked fine.. except.. I sent in 47 credits and only 45 transferred. I thought 'no big deal' since I had 3 credits to spare anyways... but when I looked at which credits were missing.. I found out they did not give me credit for either the Chemistry Lab or the Biology Lab (those two courses are being listed as 3 credits and not the 4 credits a lab course should have)... therefore, my advising worksheet says I did not meet the Natural Sciences requirement! That really pissed me off... since SL clearly says they are both transferrable as 4 credits and meet the natural science requirements... not to mention the $500 bucks I paid in lab kits.

So.. I guess I just wanted to vent and see if anyone else had that problem before. I was going to send my advisor an e-mail, but I think I will wait until she sends the official evaluation worksheet.

Here's the print of the science requirement portion of my worksheet:
