That is exactly what FEMA is!!! FEMA is the Federal Emergency Management Agency. They have an independent study program that will allow you to receive actual college credit for the courses you complete. Here is the link below.

Emergency Management Institute - FEMA Independent Study Program

I see that you are going through Excelsior College. Excelsior will only accept up to 15 FEMA credits. The vast majority of FEMA courses are only 1 credit each. When you complete 15 courses the only way you will receive credit through Excelsior is to have them transcripted through Frederick Community College.

Hope this helps you.

What is the quickest way to take these courses (I hear of people doing 5 or more in a weekend)? Looks like most of the course material is in MS Word. Maybe download the exam and each lesson and just do a search for keywords from the exam?

Most of the courses can either be viewed through MS WORD or ADOBE READER. I used the Find Feature to look for answers to the questions. I did 25 courses in about a month. Some days I did do maybe 2 or 3 at a time. I have attached a file that shows all the ones I did.

It would probably help you (especially to save on paper and ink) to just open two windows. Open the Course questions in one window and the course materials in another window. It seemed to work for me just fine.

Big help - thanks!!

There's been so many threads about FEMA courses and it makes it very difficult to find info, so sorry to ask a question that's already been addressed before!! FOR TESC: I heard that you do not have to go thru Frederick, then I heard that you do, then I heard that when you submit the final exam it will try to charge you but you can keep ignoring it.... I'm confused... can someone give the latest details on getting FEMA courses into TESC?

Thx!!

I haven't gotten credit for any of my FEMA certs yet, simply because I haven't submitted them yet. But here's what I can tell you.

When you take the tests, you are not prompted to pay anything. The courses, tests and exams are free.

If you want to get college credit for them, you must check with the institution that you want to issue the credits to determine whether they will accept the credits.

FCC is in a partnership arrangement with FEMA and thus publishes which of the courses they offer credit for. Most other schools will accept the credits once they've been recorded by FCC since FCC is an accredited college.

The price isn't exactly cheap all in all, at $60 per semester hour. which is equal to $180 for a 3 semester hour course credit. But then, I've done between 1 and 4 certifications a day when I've been working on it. But that amounts to credit costs of $60 to $240 each day I'm taking tests when I get around to actually getting them transcripted.

From what I've been reading here, if you don't have FCC issue the transcripted credits for it, you probably won't be able to get credit at most schools, since they've never investigated the course materials.

Excelsior will not accept them from too many places (FCC and Clackamas apparently) but you might want to look at http://www.instantcertonline.com/forums/...ma-ec.html as well.
