How do colleges know if you're doing multiple degrees at the same time ?

For example, I have an AA, 60 credits done. So I transfer all 60 credits into College A and finish a major in computer science (example)

while doing my major in computer science, I decide to concurrently enroll (using my AA degree) into College B to finish a degree in another major, eg, Business

Assuming I'm paying cash for both degrees (ignoring FAFSA and financial aid)

How will either college know I'm doing a degree at the other one ?

Will there be any serious implications ?

The short answer is they probably won't. The longer answer is most schools have an honor code and this would typically be handled by that code. The punishment for getting caught could go up to degree revocation in most cases. I'm not sure what the benefit would be to conceal this information, a second degree? If this is for undergrad, I don't the added value is worth the added risk.

With that said, most schools have a contingency for a second degree, and the requirements are usually around 30 credits in the new area of study. Meaning you don't have to be dishonest things just need to be done in an exacting order. Typically you need the credits to be issued after the first degree is conferred. I had intended on taking getting an undergrad in psych (for fun) after my business undergrad. Since I knew this up front I purposefully took no psych classes (even intro) for my first undergrad.

I would say it may be worth backing up a bit. What is your ultimate goal? Two undergrad degrees? If so, i'd suggest you find out the requirements at your school for two degrees and instead of doing them simultaneously, do them one after another. The rules are lenient enough to not require breaking.

They won't know unless one of your transcripts links transfer credits from both schools.

Only speaking for TESU, they probably won't know- but you will have to sign a document stating that you've disclosed your credits and something to the effect of you not working on another degree at the same time- it's been a while, but I remember signing it when I filed for graduation. Signing something gives them the ability to revoke later, should they find out and decide to do so.

They could also link financial aid to previous institutions. So in that case don't do FA in the final semester.

Yeah, this is good advice. When it comes to dealing with academic institutions, I would always err on the side of honesty and disclosure.

Thee National Student Clearinghouse is a database of school records. When people were applying to the Georgia Tech MSCS, a number of people were surprised by requests for transcripts that they either forgot about or thought didn't matter (I only took a PE class there!). GT had looked up all the schools they had attended and discovered the missing school transcripts. It's possible that it could also be used to discover that you were pursuing degrees at two institutions.

You're Infor is purged from NSC database when you request a FERPA block at your school. Most schools will let you do the block as soon as you sign up with them. NSC says it takes 6 weeks to purge your records.

This is an example of university in loco parentis. If you can matriculate at two schools and do well at both, it's none of their business what you do outside their school.

What does a school honor code have to do with this? I've never seen anything from any school forbidding this and I have multiple degrees from multiple schools and have done something similar at the graduate level.
