Foreign Language Requirement Question
#1
Hello,

I was browsing at the UMPI website, and while I realize the UMPI website is not the YourPace website, I found an academic map that is supposed to be for YourPace for the Project Management concentration:  Business Administration | UMPI Academics

When I reviewed the academic map, it shows that BUS 245 can be taken for learning objective 5C.

Since BUS 245 is already part of the program, can I take it and it count toward 5C?

Thanks!

Where do you see BUS 245 as meeting the foreign language requirements? I don't see that at all. BUS 245 is a programming course. It'd be strange if it counts as a foreign language.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

If you go to this link:  Business Administration | UMPI Academics
Then click on the academic map for Your Pace BBA Program Requirements Guide - Project Management and Information Systems at the bottom, then it gives an outline of all the classes I'm assuming they would like for you to take.  The 5C requirement lists BUS 245 or BUS 186 as options.  I've attached a screenshot.

Huh, strange. BUS186 seems like an even less likely candidate for this requirement. If not a mistake, maybe it's a new thing. Because several students here likely would have gone with either option over French or Spanish from UMPI, were they given the choice.

You can't use the UMPI website for YourPace. The degrees do not line up. You'll get a degree evaluation form from your academic advisor with everything you need. This form displayed looks incorrect to me. You're going to need a foreign language for the GEC. There is no way around that.

The mapping is specifically for YourPace. It's not just another generic UMPI page. But I think it was possibly put together by someone who doesn't realize that on-campus and YourPace are very different.

I understand that, but it's on the UMPI website. YourPace doesn't use these maps so it's odd that it's even there. The professor's name whose on it teaches on campus and on YourPace so that makes it even more bizarre. This could also be really old and just something left on the website for whatever reason. Or it never should have been uploaded to the website. Who knows. All I can say is that every YourPace student is required to have a foreign language for the GEC. There is no way around this requirement.

This person shared their evaluation- Recommendation on Classes - BABA (degreeforum.net) and the 5C learning objective shows that BUS 245 is an option.  Is there any way we can find out for sure if this is an option before applying?

Not on that link. That link shows French or Spanish. I have 2 bachelor's degrees from UMPI - BLS and BABA - and BUS 245 is NOT a foreign language. There is no way out of taking a foreign language for UMPI.

Ahh, okay!  I was looking at the different options listed under 5C that shows BUS 245. I wasn’t paying attention to the column where they listed Spanish and French in the other column.
