I just noticed that the Yourpace admission criteria state "applicants must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application, unless they have previously earned a bachelor’s or an associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution."
Am I wrong, or is the "unless...." part new?
I guess it makes the TESU Associate's degree worthwhile for some, even though it is expensive: Someone could graduate from high school while collecting college credits, get a fairly straightforward Associate's at TESU and then transfer to UMPI for the Bachelor's degree, all before turning 18 if they are motivated.
Now if only the Yourpace Computer Science Bachelor's degree would be forthcoming...

Another option is to complete the Bachelors at TESU/UMPI instead of going for or focusing on an Associates at either institution. One can try and gather 90+ credits using alternative credits until they get admitted. Then complete the residency requirements at the institution of choice. Technically, the associates at TESU and/or UMPI is free on route to the Bachelors, if you graduate them both at the same time.

That begets the question why one would bother at that point. I could have gotten an Associate degree from Charter Oak the semester before I got my Bachelor, but at that point I didn't see any professional advantage.
Although, I suppose maybe if one qualifies for an Associate degree in one discipline and a Bachelor in another that would make sense?

For TESU, that's precisely exactly why someone would do the Associates and Bachelors at the same time. They can get the AA with some classes and the AS in Computer Science with random computer related classes thrown in. While their main goal remains to get the BALS or BSBA, or whatever Bachelors they're intending to complete.
For UMPI, someone can get the AALS with a concentration (or a general concentration if they don't have anything they're interested in), ladder that up to the BLS, BBA, or another Bachelors later on. It really depends on what the person is looking for, but that Associates can also be a holder of the required credits for minors of their choice.
I would recommend completing the requirements of the Bachelors, and not bother going for an Associates if it will require much more classes. Say for example, someone is going for the BSBA General Management, and they're looking at the Associates in Biology, if they're missing more than 2-3 classes, unless you're going for a Biology Bachelors later, I'd skip it...

If only we still had Pierpont!
Still, this is pretty big news for anyone under 20 years old.
You could:
- Get a CS associate degree for under $1,000 at University of the People.
- Get a Bachelor's in Business Administration, with your choice of concentration, at UMPI for as little as $1,800.
- Earn three minors at UMPI for next to nothing.
You could start at 18 years old, complete 2–3 terms (around 6 months) at the University of the People, and be ready to enroll at UMPI before turning 19.

Hmm, very interesting, I was thinking the same thing. Starting at 13 years of age, they can do the CLEP/Modern States option unless they want to use Coursera, Sophia.org, StraighterLine, etc. By the time they're 16, they'll have 3+ years of college credit and some certs/experience with general education plus electives.
At 16, apply to UofPeople to finish off the Associates and Bachelors of their choice. They'll need to take 30 credits or 10 classes to complete both degrees if they're looking towards both the Associates and Bachelors. Because they've got the degree at UofPeople, they're now eligible for entry into UMPI for another degree if needed.
