UMPI YourPace RN-to-BSN (Foreign BSN) and credential evaluation (NACES)
#1
I’m applying to UMPI (YourPace) and need a credential evaluation for a Philippines BSN, early 2000s)
I’m trying to pick the evaluator that has the best chance of being accepted smoothly by UMPI for admission and ideally transfer/credit review for the RN-to-BSN. I want a US BSN degree, and UMPI confirmed it’s allowed even with a foreign BSN that’s from decades ago.

I’m trying to avoid WES. Between ECE (course-by-course), IEE (course-by-course), and Scholaro (convenient since they accept scans, so it will be quicker, although AICE), which one has the best track record specifically with UMPI or Maine schools and better evaluation results? If anyone has recent experience with UMPI accepting Scholaro, I’d love to hear it.

Second question for future planning: after UMPI, I may want a master’s with a CBE or self-paced online vibe. If you’ve done that path, which schools would you recommend for a master’s later (WGU, Capella FlexPath, Purdue Global ExcelTrack, or something else)?
I do want a RA Brick and Mortar CBE like UMPI.
So I guess there aren’t much out there yet.

I’m trying to avoid wasting money on an evaluator UMPI won’t accept. Thanks!

UMPI's preferred evaluators are WES and INCRED. So I would go with one of those.

Welcome to the board, even though your first choice is UMPI due to their CBE option, it's best to fill in more details in the addendum and template for others to know your current situation better. For the foreign credit evaluation agencies, I would recommend the two mentioned by ss20ts... With more details, we can try to assist you further. https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

Your Location: New York
Your Age: 45

What kind of degree do you want?:
RN to BSN (UMPI YourPace ideally), then MSN, possibly DNP later

Current Regionally Accredited Credits:
Foreign Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Philippines, 2007 to 2011). Planning NACES course-by-course evaluation. Potential transfer into UMPI RN to BSN once licensed.

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:
None yet. Open to Sophia or Study.com if needed for gaps or general education alignment.

Any certifications or military experience?:
No military. Preparing for NCLEX RN (New York).

Budget:
Maximum 10K total saved. Prefer lowest-cost pathway. UMPI RN to BSN at approximately 1,800 per session looks ideal if I can transfer in most credits. Goal is to complete remaining ~10–11 courses after block transfer (around 68 credits accepted per RN to BSN structure).

Commitments:
Family responsibilities. Preparing for licensure. Otherwise flexible.

Dedicated time to study:
25 to 30 hours per week available consistently.

Timeline:
12 to 18 months to complete RN to BSN. Open to fast-track if realistic.

Tuition assistance/reimbursement:
No employer reimbursement currently. Self-funded.

Preferences / Learning Style:
Prefer competency-based or structured online format. Comfortable with assignments and papers. Not focused on test-only pathways. Prefer flexible pacing (YourPace / CBE model).

Additional Context:
Goal is to obtain US RN license, complete a US RN to BSN for credential alignment and academic freshness, then pursue a cost-effective online MSN with potential long-term DNP. Interested in schools known for affordability and smooth credit transfer. Avoiding WES; considering ECE, IEE, or Scholaro for evaluation.

Looking for the most cost-efficient, fastest, cleanest pathway from foreign BSN + RN licensure to US BSN completion and eventually graduate studies.

A master's in what?
After RN-BSN at UMPI then an MSN and potentially DNP somewhere CBE as well

Basically, I would work on this in an orderly fashion, such as the Bachelors first and then decide which institution you would like to get the Masters. It's good to get a roadmap ready all the way to the PhD but I wouldn't even begin looking at that yet. Having said that, I would look at possible Masters options to ladder into, the reason is to make sure you have all the prerequisites and requirements completed for entry. Example, WGU MSN, make sure you have completed all their requirements for entry with your foreign evaluation and completion of UMPI studies.

WGU MSN is a bad option if you plan on doing something like CRNA (DNP). You NEED a solid GPA for CRNA school and a standard 3.0 will kill someone's shot. I tell everyone to avoid the MSN at WGU at WGU unless they are SURE they dont want to do anything else in nursing.

DNP is much different from a PhD.

So all the nursing programs on umpi is handled by UMFK (corrext me if im wrong)

umfk will accept myiee.org without issue..

Additionally unless anyone knows of a cheaper option umfk is probably best for masters at $500/credit. I dont believe they are pass or fail but do check.

My spouse is in the process of getting in the accelerated bsn program at umfk. He has bach at umpi and some lpn classes in canada. They said most likely they wouldnt transfer except maybe 1 class but will see later.

Off topic for OP but just a note for Canadians likely UMFK/umpi is likely your best option in usa fmto get RN due to cheap tuition policies for cabadians = local rate and high acceptance rate..

My advice is to concentrate on passing the NCLEX and getting licensed not only in NY but in a compact state. Getting your BSN evaluated by a NACES evaluator that nursing schools accept is crucial. If the evaluation says your degree is equivalent to a US-accredited degree, skip the BSN from a US school and go straight for an MSN. Make sure the curriculum includes the "3Ps," which means a graduate course in Pharmacology, Advanced Physiology, and Advanced Physical Health assessment, in case you want to become a nurse practitioner. When choosing an MSN program, my first choice would be a state school with a teaching hospital. Being from New York, SUNY has great universities that will help you reach your goals and should be welcoming to foreign nurse graduates. Online nursing schools abound, but they really don't put out a good product! If the school is hybrid, with a mix of on-campus and online classes, and a university hospital, that is fine. The online nursing school industry has become an absolute racket! You basically write hundreds of papers that instructors don't even take the time to read. After becoming licensed, I would seriously consider working at a university hospital with tuition benefits.

Exactly correct. All the Nursing programs at UMPI are actually administered through UMFK and that's where you have to be admitted to and meet the requirements. The RN to BSN program has two requirements prior to admission: (1) an unencumbered RN License issued by a US State or from Canada and (2) an ADN or equivalent diploma in Nursing. I believe that OP isn't yet licensed as an RN, so I am not sure if he/she will meet this requirement.

Additionally, UMFK has a fully online RN to MSN Nurse Practitioner pathway that is available and I am seriously considering. One could do the seven required RN to BSN undergraduate courses through YourPace and then petition to matriculate into the NP MSN, which is a 15 month program at $500 per credit hour. It's very tempting.
