QUESTION RE UMPI AND SOPHIA COURSEWORK

I am wanting to be a teacher. However, I dont care about going the traditional route because my district allows you to have a bachelors in anything and put you through an alternative route to get your license. My question is, what degree here is the fastest way for me to get my degree? I am interested in psychology, but Ive read its long and tedious. I went to WGU but hated it. I will attach the classes i completed there if someone would be so kind as to tell me what classes i should take on sophia and elsewhere before registering for classes at umpi to make this a quick process. Thanks in advance. I earned 36 credits there.

You can bring in 90 credits towards your degree at UMPI and depending on your major, you should be able to complete the degree in 2-3 sessions at 8 weeks per session, so around 6 months. No exams, all essays and projects. Some classes have short quizzes. You can do your general education via Sophia and likely remaining electives via Sophia. Then you would need to do at least 30 credits at UMPI, likely most of your major.

Thanks for your response! Do you think the classes i have already done at WGU would fulfill the 24 hour electives? Sorry, just trying to understand better.

Basically, your minor wouldn't cover the required classes to get up to 30 credits for residency purposes. I suggest adding a psychology minor, and if you want, you can add the 3-4 classes that can go towards the MAOL later.

This has been so confusing for me. So different than the typical school. Which I like but just have to understand better. I am just going to look at the degree plans some people have listed and follow it on what i need to take on sophia and other similar websites to transfer over. I just didnt know if there was certain pre reps that some of these degrees required in order to start taking the main core classes at UMPI. I know you can bring in 90 credits, but it has to be certain classes? Apparently the 36 credits i already have dont count?

40 unique credit hours are required for the General education requirement. It's weird since you need to satisfy each Gen Requirement and a course can satisfy multiple requirements. From there, the rest of the electives could be random courses.

Who said the WGU credits you have doesn't count? I looked at the Transfer database and it looks like they do.

Thanks for the chart! So having the credits I have, would those satisfy the 20 something electives needed towards an UMPI degree? So all i need to take is the gen eds through sophia and the core classes at umpi? edit* i guess its 38 credits not 20 something needed for electives

Your question is too general. Which degree/major/minor are you considering?

40 Unique courses are required for the General education requirement. You can currently apply 6 credits towards the Gen ed: ENGL D269 satisfies requirements 1A, 1D and MATH D125 satisfies 3A, 3B. You have 30 lower level electives from WGU.

Once you complete the Gen eds: 40 (gen ed)+30 (WGU electives)=70 total credit hours. You need at least 20 more to transfer in the max 90 credits. The specific courses would differ with each major/minor.
