To whom it may concern:
Thank you for clicking on my thread to come in and help me, I am preparing to join UMPI YourPace Online BABA Project Management Degree Program starting on 29, Aug 2022, and complete it in one session. In fact, this is my first time posting on this forum. I've been watching for a while and still have some confusion, I could have studied here longer before posting, but due to the lack of time I had to open this thread for help, I sincerely need and appreciate ur advice!
Here's some of my info:
Your Location: China. (Planning to go to the United States to study for a master's degree after UMPI)
What kind of degree do you want?: UMPI BABA PM(MIS minor) Degree/BLS MIS(Depends on whether I can do it in one session)
Current Regional Accredited Credits:
Total Credits from another bachelor's degree in China: 180 (Computer Science Major)
--Should I list all my courses here? I'm not sure because they're a bit too many.
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:
Sophia Credits: 0
Study.com Credits: 0
Any certifications or military experience? : nothing
Budget: I'd like to go the fastest route possible, but will consider spending more for easy and fast.
Commitments: Honestly, I just quit my job full time preparing for this.
Dedicated time to study: I can study as much as is needed all the time.
Timeline: I would like to finish within 1 session (2 months), no more than two sessions.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: No: All at own expense.
Here are some of my confusions:
1. Is the first step I have to do to email UMPI first to evaluate what courses I need to take? Then use the received evaluation to complete the corresponding Sophia and study courses based on the forum wiki, and then formally apply for admission, and complete the remaining courses in UMPI in one session. Is this the correct path?
2. Should I contact Jessica or shea directly for evaluation instead of Yourpace enrollment specialist right?
3. Which one of UMPI BABA-PM and BLS-MIS can be completed faster? (Not sure if I should email Jessica or shea to ask this since I haven't been accepted yet?)
4. Can this degree be used to apply for a master's degree in the United States, or to waive the TOEFL requirement? -I am an international student, and my GPA is greater than 3.5 in the last two years of college but my overall GPA is terrible, so I hope this degree from UMPI will be helpful for my master's application.
5. Does the "This degree contains all the MIS minor requirements" written on the wiki mean that I don't need to take other additional courses to ask the school to list the minor MIS on the transcript? (Just a casual question, I'll check with the school later)
Please let me know if you need other info, and I look forward to receiving your suggestions. Thanks again for your help, with best regards.

You should probably list out your credits to give people an idea of what you have and what you need. Make sure to put the number of credits and the accreditation.

Suggested next steps
1. Get an official credential evaluation (e.g., WES).
2. If your degree is determined to be equivalent to a regionally accredited 4-year degree, you'll have the general education and elective requirements waived at UMPI.
3. Complete 30 credits at UMPI
Answer to number 4: Yes, it can be used to apply for a master's degree in the US. It should waive the TOEFL requirement from what I've seen at most schools (a master's degree, however, typically does not waive it).

I have an undergraduate degree in computer science and 180 credits, I didn't list all the courses because I was worried that 84 courses would be too bloated, should I list them all here? Or put it up as a pdf attachment. Thank you for your reply

Degree plan: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UM...egree_Plan Yes, I am doing WES certification and it's almost done, and I am sure that my degree will be determined equivalent to a regionally accredited 4-year degree.
Does "have the general education and elective requirements waived" mean that I only have two parts "Business Administration Major" and "Project Management Concentration" left, then my next step is to go to Sophia to complete the alternative courses , then formally submit the application to UMPI, and complete 33 credits at UMPI. Thanks for ur advice!

You can attach or link to a spreadsheet or other document.
Yes, you'd only have to complete the major/concentration requirements.

If you already have a bachelor's degree, then you only have to do the major/minor/concentration at UMPI. For the BABA, that is 36cr in the major and 27cr in the concentration (63cr total).
You can get 4 courses from Sophia which will cover 12cr; that would put you at 51cr, which is a heck of a lot to do in a single term. If you did Study.com, then you could cover another 5 courses/15cr (although they're UL courses which will be some work), putting you at 36cr. If you also did the Coursera cert, that would put you at 33cr. Still a lot of work, but doable. I'd guess it will take you 2 terms to finish that. I'd also think that it might be hard to get all of the above done before August 29, but even that's doable if you started now (and I think you need pre-approval before they'll accept the courses).

"but even that's doable if you started now" -I'll get started as soon as possible.

With the BABA PM, you cannot complete the MIS MINOR as those courses are in the PM program.
1. You need to send you transcripts to WES. They evaluate transcripts and this evaluation is what you'll send to UMPI. For Sophia courses you just send those transcripts directly to UMPI.
2. Do not contact Jessica or Shea. You need to go through the application process. They don't complete evaluations. UMPI doesn't process applications. The University of Maine system processes applications. You'll be contacted by UMPI once they have received
3. The BLS typically can be completed faster than the BABA, but you need to go with whichever one works best for your future plans.
4. Yes, a degree from UMPI can be used to apply to graduate school. The degree probably will not waive TOEFL requirements. These are determined by each school. At UMPI you will need to prove your English skills as well because you're an international student.
5. All completed minors are listed on transcripts. All of the required courses for each degree is listed on the YourPace website.

FrostXie, your plan is somewhat all over the place. Have you decided on or even looked at a few Masters programs? What Masters or end goal is it specifically, a Business or Computer Science, IT? You should provide more details, as the info above gives us a brief view of your current plan. How young are you? How many years of experience do you have in your field? Do you have more details for us besides what has been provided as you skipped a couple details on the template?
By answering and providing more details, we can tell you UMPI or Competency Based Degree options are for you or not... At this juncture in time, it may be better if your evaluation has been verified as a Bachelors in Comp Sci, equivalent to a US regionally accredited university, you go for a Masters program instead of another Bachelors. At the end of the day, a Masters should trump a Bachelors in the same field any day of the week... Good luck on whichever way you decide.

Thank you very much for your detailed reply, but I still have some confusion about no.5. I thought it was possible to list MIS together on the transcript because of the " Special Note About The Project Management Degree" written on the forum wiki. However, when you mentioned "cannot complete the MIS MINOR" and "All completed minors are listed on transcripts" in your reply just now, I am a little confused about whether it is possible to list both PM and MIS on the transcript . I would follow your advice to go through the application process first. Really appreciate your attention and advice anyway.
