  Clep Scoring Question
Posted by: photomom4 - 11-20-2008, 09:37 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

OK the suspense of waiting the scores for my Eng. Comp. w/ essay may just drive me insane.

I was wondering, does anyone know how many questions, approximately, do you have to get correct to pass?

  Penn Foster Courses

I read where some people had taken Penn Foster courses for the Information Literacy requirement for Excelsior. As anyone taken any of their other courses for Humanities or General Education requirements? If you have, did they transfer easily (through Ace) to TESC or a similar college? I have an email to the advisement staff to see what they say, I was just wondering if anyone already found out.

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone ever considered or known someone who has completed their Bachelors in General Studies from IU? Indiana University Online and Distance Education School of Continuing Studies

This program seems a very interesting option for people who have already accumulated some credits. Although there is a 30 credit residency requirement- the cousres can be taken online or thru correspondence.
The tuition for their program is around $197.00 /credit hour.

The cost for a 3 credit hour course is around $591. If you complete 30 hours with them it will be close to $7000.

My question is that going with TESC you will end up paying $2500 for admission + 30 hours for clep OR ECE's ($1000 -$3000) depending on how many ECEs you take+ graduation fees.

Taking into account all these factors when you are paying close to $5000 for a degree from TESC dosen't it make sense to pay a little more and get a degree from an institution that is well respected and known through out the world?
After all a degree from IU bloomington / IUPUI purdue CANNOT be seen equally to a degree from the BIG three. Especially for someone who is not considering grad school to overide the Bachelors degree.

I have written this post in a hurry so maybe there are a few calculations that are off, but I am really interested in getting some opinions on this.

Thanks and have a great daySmile

  Completed my degree today

So I took my final exam today, Intro to World Religions, and I am finished with my bachelors.

I wish I knew before these two tests (Intro to World Religions and Org Behavior) (or had the courage) before I finally had no choice but to take these two Dantes so I could make sure I could start grad school on time in January. My education would have been a lot cheaper that is for sure.

Anyhoo-- good luck to the rest of you. I will hang around until the end of the month in case I can help anyone else.

  My first test experience..
Posted by: photomom4 - 11-19-2008, 09:31 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (10)

I went Monday to take the Eng Comp. w/ Essay. The proctor started us 20 minutes late and then about 15 minutes into my exam the fire alarms started to go off. They were going off every 5 minutes due to a computerized test that could not be stopped, needless to say we had to reschedule.

Went back today, now I just have to wait until Dec. 18 for my results!Sad

Up next~ Intro to Psych!

Hey ! I just was wondering if anyone had some quick tips on this Clep. I am taking it this Friday and only have this evening and tomorrow to study for it. However, I have taken Introduction to Psychology last summer and just did HG and D a couple of weeks ago.
Any tips would be great. Thanks

Penn Foster Courses and feedback requested
Posted by: joel66 - 11-19-2008, 12:43 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Once my semester is over on Dec 10th, I will have the following courses left to get my B.S. in General Business at Excelsior College.

Business Ethics
Microeconomics
Managerial Accounting
Principles of Finance
Operations Management
Business (Policy) Strategy

I am thinking of taking the following at Penn Foster
BUS400 Business Ethics - Business Ethics
BUS122 Economics 2 - Microeconomics
FIN310 Corporate Finance - Principles of Finance
Operations Management can't find this one. Maybe take at Colorado State University - Pueblo?

Thinking of taking Managerial Accounting (8 week) course at Excelsior and Business Strategy at Excelsior.

If I do take the above courses at Penn Foster, is it possible to complete course under 4 weeks, if I do this one course at a time? I am thinking of doing these in the following order:

Right now I am taking Financial Accounting and Macroeconomics at local community college and semester ends 12/16.

Microeconomics - Penn Foster or CLEP to finish by 01/15
Business Ethics - Penn Foster to finish by 02/15
Managerial Accounting - to finish by April-May 2009 at Excelsior
Corporate Finance - Penn Foster finish by June
Operations Management - CSU-Pueblo by July
Business Policy - not sure when to sign up for this one, maybe half way during studying for operations management

Is the above doable?

I'm curious if anybody has taken the 8 week Managerial Accounting course at Excelsior. I would like to get some feedback, because I'm thinking of taking both Managerial Accounting and Business Policy for my two courses to qualify for financial aid and the partner discount.

  Exam Day

I am new to this and am taking my first CLEP (Humanities) at 4:00PM today. I'm just wondering if anyone has any specific recommendations for Exam Day? I have been using the IC Flash Cards, Barron's CLEP 2008 Study Guide, The Best Review for the CLEP General Exams Study Guide, and the REA CLEP General Exams Study Guide. Although I have minimal prior knowledge on some of the Humanities topics, I think I have a pretty good handle on it. I was just wondering if anyone has taken this exam and can offer any "last minute" hints or tips. I have read the Specific Exam Feedback for Humanities and found that very helpful as well. Thank you for any and all assistance! I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping for a 50 Smile
