Question Re the CLEP Natural Sciences Exam
Posted by: lwmcc - 11-22-2008, 11:55 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

Question for those who have taken the CLEP Natural Sciences exam: Petersen's has the CLEP Natural Science exam split into two separately timed sections, Biology and Physics etc. Is the actual CLEP organized in this fashion, with the time limits being a set 45 minutes each?

For example, say I'm great at Bio and finish the 60 Bio questions in just 20 minutes, leaving me with an extra 25 minutes on that section. Does the actual CLEP allow me to add those extra 25 minutes to the Physics, etc section, or do my 'extra' 25 minutes from Bio just disappear and leave me with just 45 minutes to finish the 60 questions on the Physics, etc section?

Any clarification you can offer on this would be greatly appreciated - my expected study time will differ if I'm just going to have 45 minutes on the test for what I'm less expert in, rather than being able to 'bank' some extra time from what I'm better in...

  Excelsior & Eng Clep w/essay?
Posted by: photomom4 - 11-22-2008, 10:41 AM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (3)

Why doesn't excelsior take the Eng. comp. w/ essay? I am trying to decide which of the "Big 3" I want to start sending my tests to. I was really leaning toward Excelsior because of the 30 GRE credits, but I don't want to waste my Eng. comp w/ essay CLEP either. If I go with them does this mean that I have to do something else for my English credits?

I am so  ! I really, at least mentally, need a road map I can follow. Preferably something concrete I can write out with a time line and plan . I just don't seem to be able to find a lot of info on the college websites.

I hate to keep asking so many questions, but I want to go the best route and make sure not to waste any time.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just started school online, after being out of college for 4 years and I'm finding it so hard to focus and stay motivated to complete my classes. Any tips or suggestions you can give me? I've already committed so much money i don't want to drop off.

  I Finished!!!!
Posted by: Farmerboy - 11-22-2008, 01:32 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (43)

I have waited for so long to say those words! Today I completed the ALEKS course for Precalculus and earned the last three credits for my BSBA from TESC. I'm no speed demon like some of those on here as it took me three years from start to finish. I want to thank the Lord first of all for guiding me down this path and blessing me with the ability to take this path for my degree and for giving me such a wonderful family (7 siblings) that always encouraged me! But I would be remiss if I didn't thank you all for you help and encouragement! I have been on the forum for almost three years and have gleaned so much useful information not only for myself but for my friends as well. The atmosphere on this forum is amazing; you guys are all so willing to help others succeed.

As far as future plans, I am probably going to intern for a state senator in February, have a senior recital in April, and then graduate from high school in May. If any of you are up in Idaho come visit! I am going to stay active on the forum for quite some time, so if anybody wants my degree template just message me.

Thanks everybody!

  GRE Question
Posted by: photomom4 - 11-22-2008, 01:04 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

I had never considered taking the GRE until reading on these forums. Could someone please tell me, if I were to take it and pass with a high enough score to receive the 30 credits at excelsior, which courses it would count for? (BA in Psych)

TIA,
Stacey

Quick course for those in Hampton Roads
Posted by: Old Rusty Pipe - 11-21-2008, 06:16 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

Once a year, Saint Leo University offers a Sprint Intercession at NAB Little Creek in Norfolk, VA. For those in the Hampton Roads region, this can be a quick way to bang out a course in a very short amount of time.

The Spring Intercession consists of 10 class days. Each class day is 4 hours from 5pm to 9pm. Saint Leo charges $159 a credit hour, even during the intercession. You can only sign up for one course.

The courses offered are:

Saint Leo University - Course Schedule

On a personal note, I took the Essential Business Skills course two years ago and found the schedule demanding but doable. The fact that its so short is a bonus.

For those Thomas Edison students, I believe that the Essential Business Skills course would fulfill the Business Communications requirement of their BSBA. I do not know this for a fact, but the textbook we used during my class was titled Business Communications. That was the topic of the entire course.

  Suggestions for PRAXIS II study
Posted by: marianc. - 11-21-2008, 01:57 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

I will take the PRAXIS II for Elementary content knowledge and Social Studies (0089)-for Middle School certification on January 10th. I can't find any meat & bones study guides or "tell me what I really need to know" sources to help me brush up. Does anyone who has taken these have any suggestions? Any help or advice is appreciated!

  FedEx pays for MBA
Posted by: rvm - 11-21-2008, 11:08 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (3)

Hello Friends!

I hope someone here can benefit from this!

I was searching for job listings on my local craigslist web site. (If anyone knows of sales, marketing, customer service or technical support jobs in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC or telecommuting jobs, please send me a PM or email.)

Anyway... I found this job where FedEx (who is delivering a package to my house at this very moment) will pay for your MBA. FedEx sponsors marketing internships at the University of Memphis. Check it out!

GOOD LUCK!

For those people who have taken Intro. Psychology
Posted by: jso1983 - 11-21-2008, 01:29 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (12)

Hi. I was suppose to take this exam today but I didn't feel like I was ready for it so I moved the test date to next Tuesday. I have read a few comments from the feedback section and many people have said "Just Know the Basic". Currently, I am studying REA book and IC and Psychology textbook right now. I really don't understand when people said "BASIC STUFF". Do you mean like looking for definitions of terms and reasoning questions such as classical and operant conditioning? I took the practice test from the REA book and some questions weren't even mentioned in the book. Things like GABA, Acethylcholine, Phi Phenomenon etc. When I felt like I was ready, just more new things were coming up to scare me off (Things like brain structures and Vision structures etc). Oh, I just realized that information from Sparknotes pretty much has everything. I guess to put my question in a simple way, do I need to know everything from SparkNotes? Different types of Hormones and their functions kinda things? I have never taken this course before so this test is pressuring me real bad. I would really appreciate if anyone can help me out.

64 Credits in 30 Days and I'm All Done!
Posted by: robo - 11-20-2008, 10:19 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (9)

I took my last test today and finished up my degree at Excelsior. I will be graduating on Jan. 16th with a BSL and a focus in psychology. Up until a few months ago I had no idea that you could test out of a degree. I overheard someone at my church talking about it and started looking into it myself right away. I transferred in 57 hours of previously earned college credit and was able to complete my degree in about the same time of one summer semester of college. I have not been working so that made it a lot easier. Thanks to everyone on this forum for helping me figure out my degree plan and to IC for helping me follow through with it. I used IC exclusively for all of my tests except for substance abuse, civil war and ece ethics. The only thing I used for business mathematics was the petersons dsst guide. For most of these I studied between 4-7 hours, I studied for about 10 hours for civil war. Here's a list of the tests I took.

CLEP
INTRODUCTORY PSYCHOLOGY (61)
ANALYZING AND INTERPRETING LITERATURE (63)
INTRODUCTORY SOCIOLOGY (63)
PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING (63)
