Several Questions - And a Hello! |

Hi, all. I imagine that I'll be haunting this forum an awful lot in the coming months... I'm getting all my ducks in a row to get an AS and hopefully thereafter a bachelor's at EC. My job wants me to work in Illinois, and in order to make the move I need to have at least my associate's for licensing purposes. Less commute + more money = super motivated to get this DONE.
So, in no particular order, here are the questions that are making my head spin:
- For CLEP tests and such, I'll still complete the test at a testing location, correct? Is there any difference between taking a test and sending the results to EC for a letter grade and taking a test and transferring it in for credit, which I understand is usually pass/fail?
- The guides I've seen for a roadmap are all at least two years old. I don't expect anyone to lay out a full roadmap for me... are there any significant changes that would affect the existing roadmaps from the last year or so? As a followup, I've seen advice to let the EC adviser complete a roadmap: in general, how good are they about putting together the most expedient and cost-effective method?
- Because I'm a terribly competitive person, I'm setting a goal to complete my AS with Honors, preferably High Honors. What benchmarks have you found helpful to gauge your preparation for a test, and increase your likelihood of not just passing, but passing with an A?
- What have you found most helpful for studying? I intend to order the Cracking the CLEP books shortly, and I've accepted as a given using the InstantCert system... anything else you've found a "must-have"?
- Last one, I promise: I've read that EC takes a subject-specific GRE for 30 credits... I assume that is both upper and lower class credit, so would that not help me in completing my associate's?
Sorry to show up with so many questions, but the last week of whirlwind research has left my head spinning. And thanks to everyone for providing such a wonderful resource! I wish I'd found this a few years ago, so I'd already be done and paid for.

advanced FEMA and TESC question |

Hi,
can someone tell me if TESC accepts these FEMA credits:
IS-279 Engineeering Principals and Practices for Retrofitting Flood-Prone Residential Structures
IS-292 Disaster Basics
IS-393.A Introduction to Hazard Mitigation
IS-271 Anticipating Hazardous Weather and Community Risk
IS-340 Hazardous Materials Prevention
IS-324 Community Hurricane Preparedness
I have an old list and I marked that "these fema courses aren't accepted by TESC." I'm not sure if this is true or not, the EMI website says they're eligible for credit, but for some reason I thought that TESC wouldn't take them. Anyone know for sure?? I dont want to take them if TESC won't accept them. Or....if I take them and have them trascribed by FCC, would fema accept them then? Even after I've already been awarded 25 elective credits for them would they be accepted in addition?
Thank you so much for any help!!!

I've been away from what used to be one of my addictions-instantcert forums. Wasted from Aug to now doing absolutely nothing. Life's stresses sortof got in the way of the goal.
This is what I have left-
General Education (Arts & Sciences Requirement)
8.00 semester hours at the lower level
3.00 semester hours at the upper level
&
Applied Professional Credits or Additional Arts & Sciences
6.00 semester hours upper level in any academic area
I'm determined now to become addicted to this forum once again. I might have wasted some study time on here but when I wasn't on this forum...I was busy studying. I am not leaving this forum until I get that degree.

CLEP Scoring |

I have read some posts on how CLEP actually calculates your score. One basic question if you have researched a whole lot about CLEP scoring system. Let's say you are taking a CLEP exam with the lowest passage rate, does it mean that your cut off to pass the CLEP really low?

World Religions a Tough One! |

I have passed every CLEP and Dantes test I have ever taken and today I did not pass Intro to World Religions! I studied more for this test than any other including text books from the University library as well as Instacert. I guessed on at least 65% of the questions, totally clueless to the answers. Mind you, I am a religious person and though I knew quite a lot....obviously not!

My GRE scores...finally |

First off before I forget my study stuff is in the Exchange forum for sale or barter.....
I now have both my GRE scores..the October one I got a scaled 670..139 questions correct out of 169 answered..this is in the 71% percentile and should be worth 24 credits at EC 12 LL and 12 UL.
When I spoke to the office there before taking it,the woman I spoke with said most people score around this and wind up adding credit via exam or class.
I felt I hadnt done all that well as you can see I didnt answer a fair amount, took me a bit to get in the groove with the test. Some things I hadnt hit as hard(see my feedback in the Exams thread). I was glad I had already signed up for #2, I did this as I was right on the cusp, according to the practice test. So I went home and studied what I felt was missing hard for the next 3 weeks. I took the exam, felt much, much better than I had on the first, even tho it seemed harder, I called in to get my scores and....
I got a 680 which is 75% percentile  ..I was really shocked...not that it makes whole lot of difference to me degree plan wise. It is basically break even for me in terms of time and money to get the extra 3 credits.
I am going to add to the GRE subject test thread in the feedback section but here is my basic take...There are two ways to hit this, kinda depending on your wants needs.
If you want to just grab as many quick credits as you can then take 3-4 weeks,Use an Intro book and 1-2 study guides...social and lifetime dev texts books are good also..texts are cheap maybe 5-10 per,use IC if you have the time (and any suggestions you like can work in from Feedback). Worst case you only get 3 credits and pay a little more than CLEP prices...best you get 30..thats 4.3 dollars a credit. I scored my 24 credits with 3 weeks, cost me 5.40 a credit. Study materails are extra but I will recoup most of that. If you study for 3 weeks and cant get 3 ? Well you have bigger issues...
I was doing this for the UL credits because I had the LL but I think that just about anyone and everyone should take it,just keep it low risk/lo cash.
If you want to really max it,you need to start early and study steady. Its like climbing a mountian, the further up you go the tougher it gets. I will add some of the details I mean and what I would do diff in the exam section but knowing me,my shortcomings, etc I want to say that you should go for it. If you want to Major in Psych it is the ONLY option that lets you test out 100%...No matter how you approach it,how much or little you get you will want to get as many of these cheapo credits as you can..then you can finish whatever is needed.
Personally the only time it wouldnt be good is if you want to cram but already have all the LL you need..even then you could do like me...the other is if I had all my basics sewed up and it was 4 months away..more expensive but I would do the sep ECEs cause you dont know how you will do...you could take it at the end of the streach and if you did max it cover the 2 Psy they require but dont have exams for....that alone is gonna cost you time and money.
I am adding to the feedback later the dog is chewing on my leg..that is an UNCONDITIONED response that he needs a walk. Questions post or PM me.

Trying to get a little info on this as I will soon need to think about taking it.
First question is there a cheaper alternative that approximates it ? I know I can submit a graded paper, however the stone tablet mine was written on has broken so I need to start anew.
I would like to hear from someone who has completed it just to get a feel for it...One last thing is it pass/fail or graded ?
After looking around since I am (probably) not going to have a Major,do I get to skip this sucker ? From the title it would seem so but I would like to verify.
Thanks
