Help with BA Computer Science plan?
Posted by: Jwheels27 - 06-02-2024, 03:39 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (5)

Im finally starting to pursue a 2nd bachelors in Computer Science from TESU, I just need a little help with the plan. Here are a list of courses I think should cover most of the remaining requirements (AOS CS)...

Sophia
Intro to Python
Intro to Java
Calc 1
I already have Intro to IT, Web Development, & Relational Databases

SDC
Intro to Programming
Data Structures and Algo's
Database Management
Into to Operating Systems
Computer Architecture
System Analysis
Discrete Math
Management Information Systems

Saylor
Intro to Computer Science
Was going to take SWE but read its no longer accepted as UL

I believe this is good foundation, just need help solidifying a plan to finish this degree as quickly as I can. Any and all suggestions on what to take and where would be awesome! And let me know if I have any holes in this plan. Not looking for the easy route (I mean its CS for gosh sakes), but the path of least resistance is ideal! Appreciate any advice/wisdom! Thank you!!

Touro University Worldwide MBA - Completed
Posted by: EverSpinning - 06-02-2024, 02:48 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (4)

Hello everyone,

A few weeks ago (on April 28th according to my transcripts), I completed and earned my MBA from Touro University Worldwide. I wanted to take a moment to talk about my experience there.

Touro University Worldwide does not offer CBE programs, for those of you only looking for that format. The school offers 8-week terms where one can take two classes in each term. This is a pretty standard format these days. The MBA is 12 courses long, so it would normally take a year (or six 8-week terms) to complete. However, in my case, I had previously dropped out of another MBA program and Touro University Worldwide evaluated the courses I had taken and allowed me to transfer three of the courses into the program, leaving me with only 9 courses to take. They also did me another solid: since, in my first three terms (first six courses) at the school, I earned A's in the classes, the school allowed me to take three courses during my fourth term so that I could avoid a fifth (I already had 3 transfer in so I only needed 9 at the school). This normally wouldn't have saved me money as they charge per credit hour, but I was using the GI bill and it made two months worth of difference. They would not have allowed this if I had made even a single B in any of the first six courses, though.

I really liked the format at Touro. There are absolutely no tests there. Period. That means you don't have to worry about proctored exams with their accompanied stresses and invasions of privacy (if that is a concern for you). Instead, it's pretty much all writing, which I love. Each week consists of two discussion posts (and at least two replies). On top of that, week 4 generally requires a 5–8-page paper and week 8 generally requires an 8–10-page paper. They used APA 6 the whole time I was there. Some of my papers were run through TurnItIn or one of those services... I'd say one out of every five or six on average.

Touro University is a traditional Jewish school, so we got deadline extensions for all the Jewish holidays, which was pleasant. Upon completing my coursework, there was a degree audit process, which can take 3-5 weeks to complete. They finished mine in just a few days. I still haven't received my physical diploma, but I have the digital copy and I have my official transcript showing the conferred MBA.

The MBA program has many concentrations. I chose the Cybersecurity Management concentration, which was very well organized, but I was literally the only student in any of those courses. That made it fun (not) to reply to my own discussion posts twice a week. Nonetheless, the concentration courses were my favorite in the whole program. The capstone course was well put together as well. It really did take all the core courses and synthesize them. The final "week 8" paper for the capstone was the "Capstone Assignment," which was very similar to all the others except that it was just a bit longer, like 12 pages I think. Very doable.

I am happy to have completed my MBA there. I feel it is an accomplishment. I'm moving on to my doctoral studies, but I'm choosing South College instead of TUW in order to save time and money. I'll talk about my first weekend at South on a different thread.

Please let me know if you have any questions about Touro. I highly recommend it for those who like writing and can handle the basic 8-week schedule.

Currently taking this and wondering has anyone else taken this and how were the exams? The study guide provided is pretty general and not of a great deal of help. Id love to hear if anyone has any feedback or tips. Im very nervous as midterm and final are worth 20% each of your grade.

Help planning BA Psych with MSW program in future
Posted by: Cinch - 06-02-2024, 08:02 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (9)

Hello everyone,

I'm a 32 year old high school dropout who recently decided to go back to school to become a therapist. To that end I have completed my GED and, after a decent amount of scouring the internet and this forum in particular for information, I am currently weighing my options between UMPI and TESU for a BA in Psychology.

Which means that, of course, I have been looking into transferring credits from Sophia and Study.com. I also may have some credits to transfer from AP Exams I took during high school.

My main concern is that transferring these credits may make it more difficult for me to eventually get into a graduate program for a MSW, which is what I ultimately want. I haven't been able to find anything conclusive on whether graduate programs will readily accept credits transferred via Sophia and the like on my undergraduate transcripts.

Is this concern valid? And if so, what should I do? Perhaps it would be wiser to transfer only a certain amount of credits, or maybe just electives? Or should I not use credits from Sophia, Study.com, etc. at all and take all my courses at whichever university I choose?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Your Location: Currently living in Turkey, eventually plan on moving back to U.S.
Your Age: 32
What kind of degree do you want?: BA Psychology, either at UMPI or TESU, then MSW (have only cursorily looked at universities for this).
Current Regional Accredited Credits: None.
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None as of yet. Still in the planning stage.
Budget: Don't know if it's feasible but <$30k including both BA and MSW would be fantastic.
Timeline: Would love to finish my BA in <2 years. MSW will take 2-3 years regardless and I'm okay with that.
Commitments: Part-time WFH job, my husband and our dog.
Dedicated Time to Study: Around 20 hours a week. If I need to ramp things up I could do 25-30 hours a week some weeks.
TA/Employer Reimbursement: None. Thought about applying for FAFSA but I don't know if I'm eligible seeing as I've been outside the U.S. for 15 years.
Any certifications or military experience?: None.

Just want to also mention that this forum is absolutely amazing. I couldn't have done a quarter of the planning I have already if it wasn't for the vast amount of help and guidance that has been archived in these hallowed forum halls. Thank you all so much.

South CBE may not be the best choice
Posted by: him22 - 06-02-2024, 07:16 AM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (15)

I was in the process of starting South college for the DBA and it looks like that's not going to happen. I had my 1st first call last week with my mentor and Dr. Beckworth which he was super funny and encouraging. I was scared at 1st but after that call I was confident. Less than 48 Hours. He resigned!?! Did I do SOMETHING WRONG? I was scheduled to start class Yesterday.. No one from the college has reached out to me about anything. Come to find out.. South lost over close to 15 professors and staff members is less than 2 month. After talking with other students papers have been graded late, instructors are not responsive. And also what I thought was interesting..students have reported when you it get to the ninth course they intentionally stall you, so you can pay for another term. After reading through the official and unofficial Facebook groups I saw potential lawsuits and report that confirms my suspicion. Look like I'll be going elsewhere.

Anyone have experience with Rechtschaffen Institute for Judaic Studies?
Posted by: Oliva sayana - 06-02-2024, 03:16 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (9)

Hello there! I'm new and I hope this is the right place to ask:

Has anyone taken courses from Rechtschaffen Institute for Judaic Studies? I've searched the forum and didn't find much.

If you've taken any of their courses, I'd love to hear about your experience. What were the tuition and fees? Did your school accept the transfer credits?

Thank you!

Gandhi-King Global Academy - United States Institute of Peace
Posted by: Charles Fout - 06-01-2024, 07:00 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

Many years ago I was the Executive Assistant to the Peace Corps General Counsel in Washington, DC. He often allowed me to stroll down the street to view United States Institute of Peace (USIP) presentations and panel discussions that interested me. I have for years participated in free online USIP courses

Today, I'm thrilled to learn the USIP education and training that has held my interest these many years now falls under the Gandhi-King Global Academy.

"The Gandhi-King Global Academy promotes values-based peacebuilding through a combination of training, research, convening, small grants and direct support to peace processes."

I'm contemplating going Internet only.
I think my ISP is charging me way too much for my bundle. I'm paying for Internet, phone, and TV. I don't use the phone, and I think my TV usage will be satisfied by streaming.
Please share any recommendations regarding Google Chromecast, or other streaming devices

currently I utilize the Internet for general surfing and professional Zoom via my Desktop and android phones (via Wi Fi)

Any help and suggestion is appreciated. I must transfer these credits to UMPI by June 15 or i will get considered fail since their Spanish course is way tougher that Sophia.

  Confused about UMPI 2nd degree
Posted by: elment - 05-31-2024, 02:21 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (21)

I'm just curious and can't seem to find a simple answer. Does UMPI let you complete a degree and then enroll again for a 2nd separate degree, or is that not allowed?
