WGU BS HIM plan - advice and critique requested!
#1
I'm an LPN so the majority of my CC credits are nursing (or just too old) and won't transfer. I'm aiming to do the WGU HIM degree because the COSC program does not allow me to sit for RHIA certification.  I've already contacted my EC to ask about specific Sophia transfers so we'll see.

Completed: English Comp I, A&P I, Intro to Psych

Available at Saylor.com: Critical Thinking & Logic, Applied Probability/Statistics, Intro to Biology (will use alternate sources to study - so far, my experience with Saylor's Statistics study resources pretty much suck. I'm a fan of maybe using a MOOC resource.)

Next will be Sophia (if WGU will accept): English Comp II, Public Speaking (Intro to Comm), Any 3-credit Humanities course, Intro to Algebra, Business Ethics

SL will cover: Medical Terminology, Intro to Pharmacology and Organizational Behavior

Study.com: American Politics & US Constitution,
Pathophysiology, Intro to Healthcare IT Systems, Health Info Law & Regulations

I need sources for the following courses. Not all of them are Healthcare, so I'm hope you IT nerds might help!

Foundations in Healthcare Information Management  - 4
Healthcare Compliance - 3
Healthcare Reimbursement - 4
Healthcare Ecosystems - 3
Healthcare Information Systems Management - 3
Data Analytics and Information Governance - 4
Classification Systems - 4
Healthcare System Applications - 4
Healthcare Financial Resource Management - 4
Healthcare Statistics and Research - 3
Quality and Performance Management and Methods - 4
Professional Leadership and Communication for Healthcare - 2
Principles of Management - 4
Foundations in Healthcare Data Management - 4
Business of IT - Project Management - 4

Do you mean that COSC won't pay for you to take the RHIA as a part of your tuition? Because they are CAHIIM accredited. One of the reasons I chose COSC over WGU is they gave me credit for my CPC certification so all of my science classes, medical terminology, and the reimbursement/classification systems classes were covered.

As far as the actual HIM specific courses, I believe I remember reading on the CAHIIM website somewhere that if you take the courses elsewhere and intend on transferring them to a CAHIIM approved degree, the individual classes themselves still have to meet CAHIIM standards.

Oh wow. I somehow missed that on the COSC website. I'll see what I can do with them - whichever one is going to accept more credits is probably where I'll go.

Thank yoU!
