Saylor proctored biology exam pass with InstantCert?
#1
Has anybody taken it? I just signed up and after looking over all the materials it seems like I would be better suited not watching/reading everything they suggest (as it looks like so much more than is needed) but I don't know if I would be making a mistake doing that.

I have taken 3 exams via Saylor.org now (Marketing, Management and Intro to Business Law) and passed the marketing exam with only InstantCert but when i tried to do that again, that wasn't sufficient to pass the management exam. On the management exam there were specific questions from the readings (ie: What did so-and-so think of *blank*) so I got a 62% when 70% was a pass.

I also didn't pass the law exam (66% when 70% was a pass) but I made sure to read everything but it was my fault that I didn't give myself sufficient time to re-read some of the material.

So what I am asking is if anybody has any experience with the Biology course (BIO101B: Introduction to Molecular and Cellular Biology | Saylor Academy) and if InstantCert would be sufficient to pass this exam? Or should I make sure to read/watch all the materials?

Thanks

I don't think it would match 1:1. Generally flash card stacks are developed for a particular exam in mind which generally has a guide as to what will be on it.

I guess it's worth trying at least for $25 using the instantcert material, and if it doesn't work at least you're prepared for the CLEP in Biology, right?

I know that the InstantCert Management/Intro to Business Law didn't transition that well. Maybe covered 50-60% of the Saylor Material.

My worry is in the remaining 40-50% that doesn't transition.

I agree it could be me over-thinking $25 Smile

I don't think it will track very well. Does Saylor force you to watch the videos or do they offer transcriptions at least? If they have everything written you can read them quicker.

CLEPs and DSSTs use scaled scoring. Really, the flashcards only cover the bare minimum needed to pass the corresponding tests. On some CLEPs and DSSTs, you might only need to get 40-something percent correct in order to pass. On other CLEPs and DSSTs, you might need to get 60-something percent right in order to pass. In reality, the flashcards are not made to get you a 70% or higher on any exam.

I just took it a few weeks back, and scored 78 using mostly IC flashcards. The only work I did of the Saylor course material was I watched a few (prolly 6-7) of their KhanAcademy videos. In the end though, IC covers a whole lot more material than the Saylor test covers...and so do all those KA videos. For the Saylor Biology exam, the practice test is almost _exactly_ the same as the proctored test. So my advice would be to just take the practice test and study what you get wrong on the test.

You're talking about the Biology exam, correct?

edit: Answered me own question Smile
