Ok thanks for the background, makes alittle more sense now. Sorry to hear about your loss, I just lost Aunt on Sunday to dreaded C.

FEMA will give you one credit for each test you take which are all free. And you do it right on your own computer. You can get a trascript from FEMA or I'm not sure if you are applied to any college where you could get this transcribe to to show as an ELective College Credit.

Another quick option could be ALEKS math courses. I took Intermediate Algebra through them and was finished in one weekend. If you work hard enough you could also bang out the College Algebra and that would be your 6 credits. Or do one of those and 3 FEMA tests. FEMA won't give you a "college" transcript but it will give you a transcript that would go torward college credit.

The ALEKS can be sent to an ACE transcript which might be a better alternative....depends on what your employer will accept.

look around freeclepprep.com those seem to be more certain to me....but really you need to run the whole plan past your employer...no point doing something, even for free, if it doesn't solve the problem.

Okay, I'm having a senior moment here, but does Analyzing and Interpeting Literature require essays? I thought not. As someone who CANNOT analyize worth a dime, I did surprisingly well on this CLEP that is worth SIX credits. (Six credits for the cost of one exam. Not bad.) To me, the only tricky thing was timing. You had to make sure that you could do it all. You need to come up with a plan. Will I read the written excerpt first, and then the questions? Or will I do it the other way around? I read for pleasure, and not any works of any depth or significance. Even with my limited base, it was an easy test. Without giving a question away (but skating suspiciously close), let me give you an example. You're reading a poem from a famous American poet, although it very likely is not one you've read before. The question will be something like, "In the second stanza, what does the reference to the orange toad mean?" Heck, I just thought that the orange toad was pretty, but I'm offered five options about what it stands for. Even I can pick the correct answer. (And to all of you aspiring writers, would you PLEASE not use symbolism, metaphor, whatever? If you can't say what you want to say in simple terms, are you really trying to convey anything?)

Also, before taking a test, close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Open your eyes, and hit the start button. You will do fine. You have our thoughts and prayers on your side. And yes, I feel like I can speak for the group as they are a really nice, and supportive bunch. Good luck.

Thank you everyone... I am a teacher Assistant working for New Rochelle City Schools. I needed 9 credits to move up to level one for the NYC Board of Education. I am very nervous about taking the Analyzing Literature and Compostion exam as I do well with reading compostion but weary on my essay skills and you now need to write two essays for this exam. I wish I had the confidence to obtain this. Yes, In order to get back to work I need a college transcript with 6 college level classes. I can not tell you how desperate I am. Here is more back ground history, I lost my husband to cancer last year, knowing I needed the credits I took 3 math classes, online, from Omega Math. I thought I was covered. The state only accepted 3 of the credits because the two other classes were apparently not college level. That said I will take any and all advice because I truly feel like I am in a state of desperation. You have all been so kind and I greatly appreciate it. What is Fema? And Will it give me a college credit transcript and back to work by Monday I would kiss the ground I walk on, literally. Please help.

I didn't think A&I Literature required an essay? Can someone senior comment on this? I think the A&I would be a good bet. It's six credits and BOOM you are done! If you are afraid you won't pass, take a different class if you should fail. That's my thought, but I think the FEMA classes might not be a bad option either since people keep saying how easy they are and I think they are free? When you are out of a job and have 4 kids that's always a consideration....short on time and always watching the budget. You have a lot of options now, go with your gut and just commit to a plan of action. GOOD LUCK

You thought correctly. It doesn't require it, but there is an option to take the essays. I suppose schools (or employers) could require it, but I've never seen or heard of anyone who took the essay portion of it.

Since you are a TEACHING assistant and a MOTHER to 4 children, this is a no-brainer. You need to take Foundations of Education and Human Growth and Development. Sorry that contradicts what others have suggested, and don't take this the wrong way, but if you are cramming this information is likely to come easier to you since it's relevant to your daily life. Human Growth is about infancy, childhood, adulthood, senior years, lactation, pregnancy, stages of growth, etc.

Anyway, and Foundations of Education is going to be very basic and cover theories of learning and education history. One small issue, (maybe not) one is DSST and one is CLEP which means finding 2 testing centers and paying for 2 transcripts. A tad harder exam, but right in line with this is Educational Psychology. That one, along with Human Growth are going to both be CLEP - so one testing center and one transcript $20

Thanks Publius! Yeah, I am not going to subject myself to a an A&I literature essay if it's not needed and I don't think our original poster would like to either! I am still kind of stunned they are requiring her to have 6 credits in anything to work? I don't want to work where she does if they spring 6 credits on their employees. Hopefully this info helps her, it helps me too since that was one of the "no brainer" CLEP's I was thinking of taking. THANKS

I haven't taken DSST's, so I can't speak to the DSST exam... but I totally agree with cookderosa's Human Growth and Development CLEP recommendation. It's a easy test. I forgot all about that one. Maybe that with FEMA for a "quick fix" but if you are going to major specific classes I like her take on things.

It has been a couple of years since I took it, but Analyzing and Interpreting Lit was by far the easiest 6 credits I ever earned, and without any study or review. However... if cost is an issue (roughly $100 bucks for A and I Lit) I would definitely check and see if they are willing to accept the free FEMA credits- but only if they are willing to accept them "raw". If they have to be transcribed by Frederick Comm. College it could wind up costing you a lot more- $78 per credit. Another drawback if they have to be transcribed- it can take up to 4 weeks, which would NOT fit your timeline.

I take back any and all suggestions I made. ALWAYS listen to Cookderosa. That woman has more practical knowledge than anyone I personally know. She's kinda of like your own free life coach. Her point about playing to your strengths is spot on. While our parents told us that osmosis would not work when we fell asleep over our textbooks, life and experiences are osmotic. We just absorb things. You probably could do really well on the tests that Cookderosa suggested, and, they would probably be ones that your employer found more impressive. Good luck.

Hi everyone,

Well FEMA credits will not work for my employer but DTTS Exams will. Any one PLEASE easiest and fastest ones to stufy for, which is the fastest method od studying? I tried the Principles of Managment exam and missed by 2 points. But I desperatly need to pass and study quickly for an exam. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. I need to do this super quickly. SO PLEASE Help.
