Straighterline or Propero or Sophia?
#1
I hope no one regrets taking any course through Propero. I just took a lost taking English 102 there. The cost for each course is four to six times higher compare to SL. I could retake SL course 6 times, assuming I failed that course five times. So, here are my thought about Propero vs SL:
1. Since Propero is new and doesn't have customers as much as SL does, the cost for them to operate the business is much higher. Hence, they charge more. They have promo code, but there is no place to put it at the time I purchased the course.
2. For new students that are afraid of proctoring exam. It is not hard to get at least 70% grade through SL, even for the hardest course that they have. You can always retake the course. It is cheap anyway. Just save your previous exams for your reference to study and guidelines of what the test look like. Since there are too many students have been taking SL, you can almost google the answer if you get stuck.
3. SL is way more established, they have chat/email support alive and available, relations with colleges/universities. You are more secure transferring your credit. Now, Propero only has one counselor, and I feel only one person deals with all students. I wasted my time calling tech support, email them, and they couldn't help because they are not familiar with Propero itself until the student advisor replied my email and escalate the software issue to IT.
4. I have taken several SL courses and I don't even care about proctoring exam because already get 70% or above without proctored exam. So, whatever I get in the final, I will always pass. If you want to get an A, just repeat the course until you get an A for cheap. The courses that I have taken, only take each of them once to get an A. I can always GOOGLE the answer. Google is more than books collections if some way, not all, but we all change to use search engine rather than going to library.
In conclusion, my points above should be enough to help new people considering Propero vs SL.

Note: I had a conversation with Sophia.org customer service. Their courses are quicker and simple to follow and tests are easier. Hence, you can finish the course easier. I am here to share my experience taking courses online that I have never experienced it 20 years ago. At that time I took mostly science courses, including Calc 1,2,3. After a while, I forget. Studying is just like water, it gets hot when you boil it, and back to normal when you leave it alone. So, I won't spend too much time taking courses and study them hard because I am not planning to become a Professor of General Education courses. Just study enough to make myself understand the points for taking that class.
