Foreign language requirement question

The requirements for that minor include 9 credits of a foreign language, so that's all I needed. The other classes required for the minor are History/Political Science courses, so they wouldn't count for those.

Were the non-language classes for the International Studies minor also offered on YourPace or did you have to bring them in from elsewhere?

All of the history/poli sci classes for International Studies are not offered on YourPace.

It just took care of the foreign language requirement. Everything else was a general elective, but I was also able to use them for an International Studies Minor (I had most of the other courses for that already also).

So are you saying that you passed all 4 exams at the highest levels? And did UMPI give you full credit for all of them? (I think it's 36cr total).

Yes, I scored at the highest level on all 4. UMPI technically gave me all the credits, but I only needed 3 for the GEC. Even with the extra 6 I needed for the IS minor, I had an awful lot that were just sitting there as general electives that I didn't need. And again, nothing came over as UL.

I brought over most of what I needed for the minor from other schools. I'd also advise people to keep what ss20ts said earlier in mind. This was the perfect extra minor for me because I had already met most of the requirements with what I transferred in. I also had 10+ ACTFL credits that went unused. I wouldn't have signed up for a bunch of history classes (a few of which had a lot of long written assignments) or taken all the ACTFL to fill the extra minor. It's a lot of extra work. I sort of stumbled into the minor because I had taken all the ACTFL while planning to go to a different school and I had the history classes already. International Studies also isn't technically a minor for YourPace students, so there's no guarantee someone will be able to do it in the future.

It's good to know how they come in, so thank you.

For someone who has very few credits, but is fluent in a language available on ACTFL, you can get a ton of LL credit (as opposed to TESU, who awards UL credit that can be used in the AoS for a BALS).  But with the price of UMPI, this is still a great deal for some people.

Bit of an update, they confirmed by mail that the registrar honors the amount ACE recommends.

So in this case by getting the OPIc Italian I'm getting 12 credits (6 LL + 6 UL). Crazy good. Foreign priviledge is real.
