Natural Science fail

Unfortunately, I failed the Natural Science CLEP with a score of 46. Very frustrated, since I just need 3 science credits to graduate in June!!!! Here is my situation so far:

Bio CLEP- Pass- 6 Science Credits
Environment and Humanity DSST- Fail- Cannot retake until April 25th
Natural Science CLEP- Fail
Here's to Your Health- Pass- 3 Elective Credits

So where do I go from here? I'm better in Biology than I thought, and I asked my advisor if the following ECE exams would be approved for Science credit:
Science and Nutrition
Weather and Climate
Pathophysiology (Does this overlap with the Bio CLEP?)
Basic Genetics (Does this overlap with the Bio CLEP?)

I could also take the Astronomy DSST, but I don't know if I feel good about it. I HATE Chemistry and Physics and will not even attempt those exams.

Any suggestions? You guys are always a wealth of info!

Based on what you already passed, I believe you'll have a good time with Science and Nutrition. It's a biology class, so just be sure you don't have too many bio credits. Also, patho is generally regarded as VERY difficult. Genetics, imo, less than patho but still pretty hard core. I have no experience with weather and climate, but of the 4 you listed, it's the only one that's not biology.

Thanks Jennifer. I asked my advisor if those would overlap with the CLEP I already took, and she forwarded my questions to the academic advisor. I don't know if Science of Nutrition will be accepted by my school as a science course (they are getting the answer to that question also), so that's why I wanted to check out a few options.

I'd take a look at straighterline. You may need to check with your adviser to make sure the classes they have will work for you. They have quite a few different science classes available. In total I ended up taking 9 classes with SL towards my degree; I have a better time grinding out classes than doing tests. I'm not working until I move out west, so while being able to dedicate 10+ hours a day on these classes I was able to complete 6 of them (start - finish) in 7-10 days.

I'm not trying to sound like a salesman for SL, but it's been very helpful for getting me through some difficult classes (managerial accounting, business law, etc). If you consider it's self-paced, you should be able to study a chapter and knock it out almost immediately. The majority of courses that I had to take were 6 tests; 4 standard tests, 1 midterm, & 1 proctored final. (no homework, no graded quizzes, etc).

I would also recommend Straighterline. Being in Canada (and far away from CLEP and DSST centres) they were great for me to be able to work through them as quickly as I could - the same way it seemed to work for Kaskadian.

Good luck with whichever route you go - there are always people on here with many different suggestions so there usually seem to be options for wherever you are and whichever style of testing out suits you!

I know you said you hate chemistry, but here are 2 independent study chemistry courses that look really easy
they don't even require proctored exams

CHEM 101: Chemistry and Society

Course Requirements:**
In order to achieve successful completion of this course, you must complete
two (2) exams (Midterm and Final)
and one 3-page paper.
The exams are open-book, open-note, and do not require a proctor.

CHEM 160: Introduction to Forensic Science

I saw that CSU-Pueblo Chemistry and Society the other day, and it looks like a gift from Heaven. Even has a 1 credit Lab companion!!

According the Director of Academics, I am allowed to take either the Weather and Climate UExcel or the Astronomy DSST.

I'm thinking I'll go for the Weather and Climate. Any study sources you all recommend?

If you're taking any excelsior exam, then I highly recommend their practice tests. I don't even bother with textbooks - just google the topics that come up on the practice tests. Consistently gets me As and Bs.

That said, I'll throw in a good word for the Astronomy DSST. I passed it with a high enough score for Excelsior to count it as an A, and all I looked at was the free-clep-prep quick prep sheet. I haven't taken weather and climate but I did take Physical Geography at a b&m, and the weather and climate stuff was challenging for me - it wasn't intuitive, and it was almost entirely new information. By contrast, the Astronomy dsst was mostly stuff I already knew because of enjoying discovery channel and natonal geographic. Ymmv, good luck
