Is it beneficial to have two Bachelor Degrees? BSBA / BA

Unless you want to get into marketing or public relations, I don't see how a communications degree will be very helpful to you in the banking industry after already having a BSBA. Even if you did want to get into marketing, it would be easier to just get a BSBA in Marketing. I don't know how test-friendly COSC's concentration in communications is, but I do have a plan for TESC's BA in Communications.

$2,600 difference or so (~$2,900 for TESC TECEP BS in BA ~$5,500 for COSC BS in BA but no TECEPs) more or less to exclude TECEPs, far less business admin degree requirements, ability to use FEMAs to rapidly fill any remaining remaining filler credits,& get grades on the transcript which looks more "presentable" for graduate school imo. That's not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things considering it is a college degree we're talking about. I'd say that by taking a semester or two at CC, using those funds, a student is still "saving" $50,000 - $100,000+, years of time not having to sit in class for 3-5 years, and other opportunity costs. Now if someone already has exhausted student loan sources, or already completed a bachelor's degree, TESC's TECEP plan could make more sense though it wouldn't really be justified to do a 2nd bachelor's, or if someone has a lot of time and/or has a penchant for digesting college textbooks, or not a US citizen and ineligible for loans for instance.

I'm all for PLAs if someone's able to put the work to demonstrate their experience but they tend to be too uncertain, expensive, and still end up entailing quite a bit of writing with no guarantee of getting them. Someone wrote on the wikia:

I mentioned in another thread that I've started making the rounds and really working the networking angle. I have met with three different executive officers...all three remarked that it was great that I was "masters prepared". One expanded on that to include that our company has many with the experience to lead, but a relative lack of those with both the experience and the masters education. You have to do your part so that your contacts and the people who know you can lend their full support.

Adding a communications BA to a BSBA, is silly. The few people that even notice will think it an oddity and it will check the same "has bachelors" box that the original BSBA already provides.

TESC's portfolio assessment is $363 for the first 12 credits and $206 for every 6 credits thereafter. COSC and TESC allow one re-submission. I don't know about COSC, but TESC's portfolio process is pretty much self-paced. Other than waiting for your evaluation, how long you take depends on you. I'm not here to argue about TECEPs, FEMAs, PLAs, and grades. The OP mentioned money being an issue, so I'm letting her know there is a cheaper option available.

I am looking to get back into the banking industry, in a Commercial Lending/Administrative position at one of the many community banks in the surrounding areas, preferrably, in my home town since I have many connections already in place.

This is all new to me since I have been out of college and the workforce for many years.

I was basically curious if a BSBA with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication would be better than a BSBA/MBA for my goals.

I chose COSC due to the fact they will have an official BSBA coming this July rather than a BS in General Studies with a concentration in Business Adminitration.

I am a stay at home Mom and have plenty of time to complete my degree as quickly as possible. I would like the fastest way, testing out, and the most affordable since we are currently saving for our children's college education. Also, I would like the easiest at this point since I have been out of the acedemic field for some time.

You may want to take a look at Krisboelte1's BSBA in Finance degree plan. I am speciifcally speaking to the area of study. You can see that he used multiple methods of earning the required credit: courses, TECEP/DSST exams and PLA portfolios.

Maybe read through some of his threads/posts for tips on building your degree plan specific to the banking industry. I know nothing about what COSC will or will not accept, this is just an additional source of information. Be patient, it's both exciting and overwhelming at this stage. Once you complete your research and finalize your plan it becomes much smoother. Good luck!

Kitten Mittens has given me a really good course outline and has graciously looked over my transcripts and course suggestions for my BSBA at COSC....cannot thank her and this forum enough!!!

I do believe I will be going for my MBA once I graduate :-D
