Help inexpensive fine arts credits
#1
Received this info for my son from cosc - he needs credits under this Fine Arts/Literature. That can be done with Music, Art, Literature, etc. He'd rather not take literature.
Also looking for a Logic course.

The A&I Literature CLEP really is the best option for this, but if he is definitely against literature, Penn Foster has Music and Art Appreciation that are ACE approved and can be applied for this requirement. (I have not taken these, but you can search for some posts on these courses.) Be careful because these credits are shown as expiring on 10/31/2015 with ACE, so he would need to complete the course by then. PF could get the course renewed with ACE, but you can't count on it.

Luna Community College offers inexpensive online courses. They have a music appreciation class that might work.

The A&I lit is really a reading comprehension exam that uses literature to, uh....interpret. Smile. So there is literature, but not like there is so much one should dismiss the exam out of hand.

It's also worth 6 credits.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Let's not forget you have to be 17 yrs old to do Penn Foster courses.

And their logic is math based, so you don't want a philosophy based course. I assume he's using it for math?

I did individual courses with PF before I was 17, and there was no problem. I think maybe the requirement is for those who are enrolled.

Well that's good to know! There is a disclaimer on there website when you go to enroll for courses. It says must be 17 yrs old. I am just pointing that out because I was going to order a course for my daughter who is not 17 and so I decided to wait since she does not meet the age requirements. I will give them a call than and find out how to get a waiver for that.

You don't need a waiver, and it is better to apply for an individual course by phone instead of on their website. You just call this number (1-800-238-9554) and ask to sign up for an individual course. When the course is completed, be sure to add it to your ACE transcript.

They don't ask for your age to take an individual course. I think the age requirement is when you enroll in one of their programs. I never had any trouble doing it this way.

This suggestion would depend on how old he is and how quickly you need the credits. If he's high school aged for at least another year you could always do one or more AP Art Portfolios during the year to be turned in next spring.
