Georgia Work Ready Certificate Program
#1
I'm taking a 4 hour test tomorrow for the new Georgia Work Ready Certificate Program. I was encouraged by the Dept. of Labor to take this exam, and the Governor is really pushing it. I was also told that any Georgians that want to apply for a government job will now be required to take this assessment.

Looks pretty interesting. The link is What is Georgia Work Ready? :: Georgia Work Ready.

"Georgia Work Ready was created to ensure that Georgia's workers have the best skills, easy access to training and world-class job opportunities. The backbone of the initiative is the Work Ready Certificate, which assesses the real world skills of Georgia's workers. Georgians can use their Work Ready Certificate to prove their work readiness to potential employers. Georgia also offers gap training aimed at helping to improve Certificate scores, enabling career growth and continued on-the-job success. This, combined with an innovative job profiling process that accurately identifies the exact skills required for specific jobs is helping create the perfect match between Georgia workers and jobs."

If you score low on some part of the test, you can get free "gap" training online to raise your rating. I also heard they will be giving away free gift cards to help with job search expenses if you take the test, and also if you do the gap training.

I hope to get a good rating, because it will also be going on my resume.

Yes, but I know there are quite a few regulars here that are from Georgia and I just wanted to bring it to their attention. You gotta admit. It looks like a pretty good program.

The ACT sponsored test wasn't too difficult, just long. It took about 3 1/2 hours to complete. There was 3 segments- Locating Information, Applied Mathematics, and Reading for Information. Each test started out very easy and ended up with some head-scratchers. 55 minutes per test and it took every minute on each test to finish. After those 3 were done, I had to do a 120 question "Talent Assessment Profile".

I ended up with a gold certificate, just barely missing out on the coveted platinum certificate. Scores were 1 to 6 on each segment and I got a 5 on LI, 7 on AM, and a 7 on RI. I didn't even know it went to 7. The proctor was actually impressed. She warned everybody not to take the Locating Info part too lightly, and it did get tough. That was my lowest score and keep me from getting platinum. Some of the people there had trouble just filling out their personal info.

Now to get some free online training and re-take that part again in 30 days. Gotta update the resume now, I still did well.
