Finished this one a few weeks ago of all six of the Independent Studies courses I have taken this one stands apart.
It wasn't hard per se but contact with the instructor and getting grades back seemed to be a real chore. I would take something else unless I had to have Organizational Theory, and if you do have to take it, understand that you will need extra time for grades.
The course was very straightforward. It's essentially a survey of the various metaphores used to describe an organization; machine, political, organic, etc... there are 8 "quizzes" that are open book, self paced, and very straightforward. Quizzes account for 33% of grade. A book report on an organizational theory topic is required for another 33% of your grade. Be sure to use plenty of references back to the text for your book report, professor likes that. Finally you apply one of the metaphores to your business or the organization of your choosing. worth another 33% of the final grade.
Books were rediculously cheap, I think I spent $30 total via Amazon.com.
The Instructor just seemed very busy and pre-occupied, but he did manage to get it all graded, I got an "A" and I have no real complaints. Like all the CSU classes this one was $459 bucks plus the books.
CSU was, as always, just over the top in customer service. I can't say enough positive things about the front office...extraordinary customer service!
