Quickest and Easiest Way to Boost GPA for State College

Hi everyone. Currently I am enrolled as an on campus undergraduate student at a state college. I want to transfer to a better college but need a slightly higher GPA. What is the best way to go about doing this in the easiest and quickest manner? I was considering taking a few courses at UMPI over the summer as they give letter grades up to As, however do any other schools (WGU, etc. or programs (Sophia.org, study.com, etc. give letter grades and are completion based? I do not need high level classes or anything( just a few gen ed level classes.

WGU is pass/fail only and Sophia/Study don't contribute to GPA as they're not technically college classes.

Another option for you is ASU ULC. They have a handful of self paced courses and if you don't finish the course with your desired grade(A), you can simply choose not to pay to transcribe it.

Greater details, I usually get people to fill us in on the scenario with more info, which school have you attended, what grades do you currently have, which school are you planning to attend, do you have a backup plan or another program you want to get into, what your end goal is, budget, commitments, study habits and so on... There are really only 2 ways to raise your GPA, and it depends on how much you need to raise it as to the best option:

1) if your college offers it, retake the courses you got low grades on, starting with the worst (so F, D-, D, D+, C- in that order).  If you can replace an F with an A for example, that's the biggest bang for your buck.  This is ONLY possible at the school you took the original courses at.

2) if your college doesn't offer it, then you need to take additional graded courses.  Just be aware that if you have an F for example, you will need 3 A's to bring your GPA up to a 3.0.  That's a LOT of extra courses.

Unfortunately, neither of these options are fast or easy or inexpensive.

If you have any grades C or below, I'd repeat them at your school as this will increase your GPA. Are you at least 20 years old? You must be at least 20 to attend UMPI. It's too late to enroll at UMPI for the summer but you may be able to get in for fall.

We might be able to help better if you give us an indication of where you live, your budget, your time frame, what your GPA is now, how high you need it to be, and what the low grades are that are tanking your GPA. As others have said, replacing previous D or F grades will make the most impact, if your school allows it. It's worth doing even if you can only manage a C or B since the removal of the fail is the big help.

Beyond that, you have to take additional regionally accredited courses, and there aren't a ton of cheap sources for that. You options will depend on your location, your budget and your time frame.

Hello everyone. Currently I am a 19 year old full time student at SUNY Geneseo in New York. It is my goal to transfer to Binghamton University for the spring semester. The priority application deadline for transferring is November 1st of this year. Currently my GPA is 2.8, but I'd like for it to be as close to a 3.0 as possible by that time. Unfortunately, my fall grades probably won't be considered since my fall semester ends in mid December.

This is my most important class! I have one D in Intro to Theatre Design that I would like to retake online if anyone has some recommended courses so it can boost my GPA before the transfer application deadline. This is the most important. If I can replace
my D with an A, my GPA will be a 3.2. Adding onto this, I have Cs in Geology 101 and a class called Major Exploration and Career Development that would be helpful if replaced.

My school has a 15 credit limit during the summer and winter, and a 17 credit limit during the fall and spring. This means that I can take up to 5 three credit courses during the summer, however once my class start during the fall, I have to stay under the 17 credit limit.

Ideally I would like to take a few courses during the summer, however I am not opposed to dropping a few classes from my on campus school, in order to take more online classes that can be added to my transcript before Nov 1st. 

My budget for each course is around $800, however if there are any competency based programs that charge more, I am willing to pay out of pocket. 

I do not have any specific class requirements, as I am solely trying to get my GPA up in the quickest and easiest manner and I don't have many commitments aside from living on campus in the fall.

OK, so, I've merged the two threads... it's less confusing as you get the entire story. From reading your info again... If $800 is your budget for each course, shave that in half for the ASU UL courses that are self paced and you can get the A's for the course before you actually pay for it. It'll be $25+$400/course, but should be an 'easier' A than your current institution. You missed the UMPI application deadline by a week, otherwise you could have started earlier and did one session at UMPI for cheaper at $1500 all you can complete...

Unfortunately, replacing a grade only works if you retake it at the same school, assuming that your school allows it. Also, replacing C grades often isn't allowed. If you do succeed in raising your GPA with Fall grades, send in your new transcript as soon as it's available. It's always possible that if it comes before they start their evaluations, that you can squeeze them in.

Have you talked to the new school about your grades? Often transfer applications aren't as competitive as freshman admissions.
