Internet Based DANTES - Better?
#1
Hi,

I see a bunch of local places that administer DANTES (pen & paper) near where I live, but only 1 place (much further away) that offers it by Internet. What preference do you guys have?

One obvious difference is that with Internet, Prometric has your results instaneously, which reduces the time it takes before your school gets the report. I called Prometric - they said the school has the results of Internet tests in 7 to 10 days versus 3 to 4 weeks for pen/paper. Also, I understand that you get your results before you stand up from the test (Internet).

Any pros for pen/paper

Thank you!!

I drive an extra thirty miles to take the Internet-based tests. I hate waiting for results, and I much prefer clicking a screen to filling in a bubble on an answer sheet. I'd drive another thirty miles each way if I had to -- maybe more.

All my DSSTs have been internet based. I love it. The time limit is never a problem for me...I have never even come close to taking up two full hours. And I love getting my score back right away. When I had to wait for my score on the English Comp CLEP I just about went NUTS. Big Grin Big Grin

Plus, I like the "review" feature at the end of the test. I don't know how it works on the paper-based tests, but the DSSTs are like the CLEPs in that there is a "summary review" page that shows you all the questions and which ones you've marked and want to go back to. To me that is easier than the flip-flip-flipping that I assume you do on a paper-based test and also ensures you don't miss anything.

Thanks for all responses - decision made... IBT regardless of how far. I'd rather spend 2 extra hours in the car, than 3 weeks torture wondering if I passed. Wink

Personally, I don't mind taking the pencil and paper DSSTs. They have no time limit (not a problem for me) and they allow you to take a break if necessary. When I took the Statistics DSST, I'm glad I had no time limit. I was working more easily paced and more confident than the ECE Stats guy 3 seats down from me. I would love to get my results instantly too, but "patience is a virtue". Good Luck!
