The second half looks like material that's mostly new to me or previously known but now completely forgotten (damn that knowledge/learning half life!)

Also, I enrolled in the ASU Earned Admissions calculus 1 for engineers that starts next month. Even though I already have calc 1 credit, I wanted an intensive review plus it'll be far more rigorous than what I did with SDC. I liked the looks of its self paced format using the gradarius platform. For only $25 I get the same quality instruction/access to online professors/tutors that ASU students get. Plus when I pass, I'll have 1 year to decide if I want to pay for RA credit(probably won't need to but it doesn't hurt to have options in case I want to transfer or go to a grad school that wants to see more RA credit.) Also, one final reason is a personal matter: that is exactly same course number as the calc course I dropped out of way back when I was 18 and attending on campus at asu. I now know that conventional, b&m, on campus, lecture based learning doesn't work for me but I will have a sense of accomplishment for completing something I gave up on nearly a decade ago.

Best of luck!

Thank you!

I filled out the form to enroll in the ASU College Algebra for basically the same reasons as you, except that I know I'm trying to rack up RA/graded credit (otherwise, I'm pretty sure it uses ALEKS so I would just do that). Waiting to hear back from them. So even though I already did the CLEP I'll probably end up paying for the RA credit as long as I like my grade. I'm thinking of doing Precalculus as well, since it's got ongoing enrollment, same benefits in terms of cheap, graded RA credit and I don't have anything for Precalc yet so it would help out with GE electives and the AoS for my ASNSM in Math that I want to get.

If I think of it as "paying $425 for ALEKS", I feel stupid. But when I think of it as "paying $425 for a letter-graded, RA course that also happens to be self-paced" it seems like a much better deal. Plus, if I don't like my grade I can a) save $400 and b) Not have it show on a transcript.

Interesting that you say the Calc course looks to be self-paced. I believe I saw in the FAQs that College Algebra and Precalc were "supposed" to be the only self-paced ones. From what you can see, does it look like it requires some engineering-type scientific knowledge, or is it mostly just a generic Calc course?

It's a 15 week course that must be completed within that time constraint but other than that, it's self paced and adaptive. I asked them a lot of questions regarding the different courses the other day and that's my understanding of it. It's still just a generic calc course, maybe with more engineering based examples and a little more rigorous than other options.

They also have business/brief calc course that uses the same gradarius platform.
