I called ACE today and there IS an initial fee of $40 to set up an account now. (The TESC paperwork I have says it's $45.) You can pay the $20/mo. fee to ALEKS, and they do an initial assessment and place you into your math class.

As AkaiOkami said, when you hit 70% of the material completed, you can request the score be sent to your ACE account. Still way cheaper than CLEPs for math. ;-)
