Credits for biology
#1
I am taking the biology clep exam and on my universities website it says next to it that a person can recieve up to 8 credits for taking the test. I think this is right. Does it sound right? Would it be more like 4 credits because its has a lab and class? The reason I am confused its because next to the Biology test its says for Biology1/Biology 2.

I give you a golden advice: sometimes its better to not bring a lot of attention to some topics in the academic field, or you will end up being the only one in that school who gets 6 cr for that test instead of 8 Wink

At my university, the credit that you get is based on the score that you make. I think 50 gets you 1 year's credit and 55 or 56 buys you both lab sciences. That's what I'm aiming for....

What are you studying to get ready for this clep?

EVERYTHING.lol I went to the store and bought Ap biology for dummies, Ap is similar to Clep tests. Its very information and I enjoy reading it actually. The author makes it easy and fun. Its still detailed Bio, dont get me wrong. You will diffinately learn from it. The next thing I do is study on Peterson's website. The tests are extra hard, which makes you over prepared. For me this is important because I lack confidence when I go to take a test. To know I am over prepared makes me feel great! I also composed a lists of the different subjects in biology that I need to go over and printed them off the internet. If you don't know vocabulary of something I suggest you learn it. For me, I needed to know the vocab of genetics. I was getting lost in the words, which isn't good, if you know the words it makes it easier to understand the questions obvouisly. To know what to study go the http://www.collegeboard.com and they should have a detailed outline of what you need to study. I have like 8 tests I can practice with. On peterson's they will give you different types of the tests. The last one is the hardest because Im guesing that they presume that you have studied lol. After Biology I am taking Chemistry because well they are both sciences and Biology talk aboud the basics in chemistry so I figured I should go from there. Then take a math and English and Im good to go! What do you do? I would love to know because I want to make sure this info sticks in my head. I keep re-reading chapters, lol.

I have read the Cliffnotes Biology. I do the flash cards, but they are just too much for me. Right now I'm reading the REA Biology book and taking their tests. Not sure, but I scored a 61 on their test - anybody else have experience with REA being on spot for a good estimate on how you'll do??? I also have the Petersons but after reading Cliffnotes, I scored a lowly 49 on there and was shocked/disappointed. That's when I decided to get the REA. I also have a college Biology textbook.
My problem is that I just found out tonight that I need to get this done by Wednesday of this week - I thought maybe I'd have longer. The college that I've applied to doesn't have all of my necessary paperwork on file and I need to figure out what's going on. I either pass this and move on to my final 15 months of school, or I get delayed for another year and go take college biology and astronomy and reapply for next fall. I'm an education major so I'm sort of panicking at this stage....

The peterson's test are much harder than the actual test, personally I like this because it makes me more confident when I go to take the test. The first time I took the test I got a 43, the second time after reading biology for dummies up to chapter 5 I recieved a56! with 62 questions right. I want to make sure because I want a high score for school, but dont worry about the peterson's they scare everybody:] oh and the questions I got wrong i just copied and paste from petersons website so I can study them.

I'm about to take the 2nd one - I'll have to let you know how I do... I need a 50 to CLEP 4 hours and a 55 to CLEP 8 - that's two classes and exactly what I need. I am running out of time though...nothing like having your nose to the grindstone!

Good luck to you!

Are you saying your going to take the second peterson's test? THe second one is harder than the first, and the third is harder than the second, so dont be discouraged.
