History Course Options
#1
Are the courses listed on the YourPace site for the "History Concentration Requirements" (Link: https://online.umpi.edu/programs/ba-hist...ience.aspx) the ONLY courses you can take to fulfil the History requirements or are they just some examples of courses that would meet the criteria for that section?

The reason I ask is that it says we must complete 48 credit hours of History concentration courses and if that list is the ONLY courses we can take, they fill up all 48 hours.

If I look at the Political Science Concentration Requirements there are other history classes (HTY313: Early Modern Europe and HTY318: Modern European History) that are of interest to me (and must be offered as a YourPace option if Political Science majors can access them) so can I could take these as 6 of my 48 hours of History Concentration courses?

Also is there a catalogue of all course options we can see for the YourPace program or do we need to wait to get that information from the advisor?

Thank you again for your help.

Those are the courses offered in YourPace. You can take some other courses elsewhere and transfer them in. I would speak to an YourPace academic advisor before taking courses elsewhere just to make sure they will transfer in to fill the requirements.

There isn't a catalog for YourPace. You can look through every degree and see what courses are offered. Every course required for the YourPace degrees is offered in YourPace.

IIRC, someone who started/went through the History degree made a post that listed all of the available YourPace History courses. And it was more than what the public sees on online.umpi.edu. I would definitely talk to your advisor about what history courses are available and that apply to your degree.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

Thanks @ss20ts and @rachel83az!

I'll go through the other YourPace degrees and see if there are courses listed that interest me like I found in the Political Science concentration. I'll also see if I can find the post with all the YourPace History courses.

Hopefully, it won't be too much longer until I can talk to an advisor. I've requested my transcript from my prior degree but they said it could be up to a week before it's even sent and then I'd expect another week or so in the mail so it'll be awhile yet before I hear about acceptance and which of my previous courses will be transferred (beyond the GEC requirements).

The advisor has the list of courses available. I don't know if there are any history classes beyond what's listed on the YourPace site. You'll get an academic advisor once you're accepted. For some reason they don't publish any sort of list. I always had to email her to ask what my options were for my general electives.

Ah ok. I guess I'll just have to be a little more patient until I get an advisor and do some more degree planning from there. It is a bit different though that they don't have a list of options as most universities I've looked into have a course catalogue so you can see all the possible courses they offer (although they aren't always offered every term).

For me, the reason I was looking ahead was to see which interested me the most to meet the requirements to help plan the most efficient use of my terms.

For now, I decided the best place for me to start is with US History I and II because I know those are two must-haves that I have nothing remotely equivalent to. I've just signed up with Sophia and hope to complete both of these courses in April and then I'll go from there.

UMPI does have a catalog, but what others are saying is that it won't accurately reflect what's available to you through YourPace.

Filtering for "Web/Online" as the location in their course search might give you what you want: https://www.umpi.edu/academics/course-registration/
Ongoing: MLIS

June 2022, Thomas Edison State University (TESU): Second degree - BA in Computer Science + ASNSM in Mathematics + Cert. in CIS + Cert. in Operations Mgmt.
e-Packs: Computer Concepts; Industrial Psych.
Guided Study: Comp. Architecture
Online: Intro. to PLA; Database Mgmt.; Software Eng.; Data Structures; Liberal Arts Capstone; DSI-610 (Statistics.com)

May 2019, a residential, RA institution: BA in Political Science and Educational Studies
Relevant equivalencies: MAT-321; MAT-431; STA-315

The catalog is only for on campus students and doesn't pertain to YourPace students.

The link above shows the online classes offered at UMPI. They have other degrees available online that aren't part of YourPace. YourPace is not in the registration system. You can't register yourself for any YourPace course. Only an academic advisor can register you. You can't see what's available in YourPace at all. You only see the classes you're enrolled in and completed. You have to ask your academic advisor what classes are available. There are few lists that they have. I know the business list is very outdated by a few years. It's missing 2 whole concentrations along with professor and project changes.
