I wish! All the Honor Society's I've seen require me to take some courses at TESU, EXCEPT the awesome and phenomenal Gamma Beta Phi that you found! Thank you so much, both of you!

Honor societies are run through your college or university. So, for whatever college/uni you're considering, you need to search their website. I qualified for the honor society and was accepted while I was in graduate school. I had to have letters of rec from the dept, but I "walked" with both a yellow tassel and cord. My pic is here in my profile.

I disagree. Not all do and I listed 4 examples below.

Now if your University does not have a chapter it might NOT go on your official transcript. They may only allow the ones they control (local Chapter).

I have one of my 6 on my official transcript. This is not a big deal to me as you have the official certificates in hand as proof (resume etc.).

I stand corrected, thanks for the info. I'd never heard of honor societies that weren't run through a school (except the dot com kind) so that's good to know.

If one meets the qualifications for an honor society at a given point, is inducted, and then in a future semester drops below the required GPA, what happens? Do they drop you? Or once you're in, are you just IN?

How would they ever know after the fact?  I belong to many and they never check up after the fact.

Oh.  Good point.  I guess with so many being chapter-based and connected directly to the school, I just was thinking that since the school knows, they'd send the information or something.  But that sounds like an awful lot of work.

Here on this forum we don't agree on the value of an associate's degree. I'm one of the people who thinks getting an associate's degree on the way to a bachelor's degree is a good idea. Phi Theta Kappa is the national honor society for community colleges. It's legitimate and nationally recognized. It takes 12 hours with a 3.5 GPA to qualify. You don't have to get an associate's degree to qualify for PTK. You just need 12 hours from your community college.

If you use the Texas common application to apply to a public university as a community college transfer student, the application specifically asks if you are a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
