Transferring my community college credits to Excelsior & Receving my preliminary revi
#1
Hello, I am a new member to this site and I am not sure if I am doing this correctly, but I was hoping to get some help from some of you on here.

Anyway,

I applied to Excelsiors Associates of liberal arts program today and also requested my official transcript to be sent to excelsior for review in hopes that most of my credits would transfer. I have 37 earned credit hours.

I was wondering if I made a list of my credits earned if someone could help me get an idea of:

1) how many of my 37 credit hours they will except?
2) how many more credit hours/classes I will need to take?
3) how long does the associates program usually take? I know that you have to take a capstone course at the end now that from what I hear is an 8 week long course.

I need to get my associates degree ASAP for a possible promotion at work that requires one.

Thanks!

Since it is an extremely flexible degree, I wouldn't anticipate much trouble. EC allows all of the credits for this degree to transfer except for the capstone. If you post a list of your credits, we can help you see how well they fit into the specific requirements.

You might be able to finish this very quickly, depends on you ...what you need to complete...and how dedicated you are to getting it done.
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

All of the ones from Columbus State Community College are, yes.

I am not sure how the Pearson Vue Excelsior exams are structured.

Thanks,

Please double-check this in the latest Liberal Arts Catalog for me, to be sure that I am using the most recent policies.

Yes, if these CC credits are quarter-hours, then multiply by 2/3 to convert them to semester hours. If so, you would have about 30 credits (also see math note), plus 9 from ECE exams. Also, I haven't heard of ECE's being Pass/Fail; I thought they were graded. I'll just assume you earned those credits, too, pending an official evaluation.

Associate in Science at Excelsior College – 60 credits

General Education for AS

Humanities – 6 credits - DONE
ENGL-252-IMAGES OF MEN/WOMEN 5 CREDITS
HUM-111-CIVILIZATION 1 5 CREDITS - not history, right?

Social Sciences/History – 6 credits - DONE
SSCI-101 CULTURAL DIVERSITY 5 CREDITS
ECE Lifespan Developmental Psychology 3 credits

Math/Natural Science – 6 credits with a minimum of 2 credits in math and 2 credits in natural science - DONE
NSCI-101-NATURAL SCIENCE 5 CREDITS
BIO-101-INTRO TO ANAT. & PHYS. 3 CREDITS
MATH-102-BEGINNING ALGEBRA I 4 CREDITS - Note - can only have 9 credits in math below Calculus, plus 3 more in Statistics
MATH-103-BEGINNING ALGEBRA II 4 CREDITS
MATH-104-INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA 5 CREDITS
MATH-148-COLLEGE ALGEBRA 5 CREDITS

Written English Requirement – 3 credits - DONE
ENGL-111-ENGLISH COMPOSITION 5 CREDITS

Information Literacy – 1 credit (options include EC course, Penn Foster (may have changed 1/1/2013??), LSU) - NEED

Capstone course – 3 credits - NEED

Arts and Sciences – 6 credits - probably done from overflow above

Arts and Sciences/Applied Professional – 29 credits - NEED to finish
CIT-101- PC APPLICATIONS 1 3 CREDITS
MULT-101 MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY 2 CREDITS
ECE Transition to the Registered Nurse Professional Role 3 credits
ECE Essentials of Nursing Care: Health Safety 3 credits

An optional Area of Focus is awarded with 15 credits in a single discipline

It looks like you mostly need free electives. We can help you choose "fast" credits (A&I Lit, Tech Writing) and exams that fit your interests out of the Student Guide to Credit by Exam. If you are planning a Bachelor's degree, this is a good place to get started on it, so you can use your credits well for both degrees.

It looks like you have a great start! I hope this helps!

NAP, thank you SO MUCH! Yes this helps!

I guess the EC exams arent really Pass/Fail, poor choice of words...they are letter graded and I got a "C" or better on each of the 3 so therefore I passed.

It looks like you are saying that I have 30 credits from my Community College and 9 credits from my ECE exams for a total of 39. The degree requires 60 so I need 21 more credits? If I mostly need free electives, I would like to choose the "fastest". I am currently working as a LPN at an assisted living facility where my title is 'Resident Care Director'. I had plans to enroll in Excelsiors LPN to RN associates program until my company asked me if I had interest in becoming an administrator/Executive Director of one of the buildings of the company instead of a resident care director. There is opportunity with the company now for promotion to become an administrator, but my problem is that South Carolina requires you to have a minimum of an associates degree (in anything) to apply to get a South Carolina Assisted Living Adminstrator license.

So basically, I dont really care what classes I take, but timing is the most important factor for me and my situation. As soon as I earn my associates degree, I can begin the administrator license process! I plan to continue the LPN to RN program AFTER i get my administrator license just because a RN is good to have, but wanted to get the associates quicker if possible. I still have 7 classes for the LPN to RN program + CPNE and its waitlist time....

So whatever free elective classes would be quickest is what I would be most interested in.

Thanks so much.

Also, yes that is not history and it is humanities to answer your question. Also, the you did this estimate under the Associate of Science, is the Associate of Art different/quicker then the associate of science in my situation?

Nap has you...here is a conversion chart for quarter to semester hours https://business.vancouver.wsu.edu/sites...Sheet1.pdf

The fastest free electives will be FEMA, unfortunately they aren't free at EC, they run around $75/credit....but you could have 20 or so done in a few days.
