This was my second exam first was Dantes World Religions and today Clep Sociology.....I PASSED!!!! My score was a 70 but I only studied for 5 days using IC. The material on IC was sufficient, but critical thinking is a must...read between the lines, a lot of the questions were in the IC answer explanations...but a BIG hilarious thank you to IC for making this the fastest and easiest way to get those credits. I only have two more courses to go, Dantes Ethics and CLEP Human Growth and Development, from what I have read on the board HG & D is the next choice to make, once I have passed these two then I finish my Nursing Core with Excelsior and I am FINITO!!!!

Are there any APU or AMU students on the board? Other than me, that is......

I've got a long way to go before getting my BA but thought it might be fun to start collecting celebration ideas now. There was one of "us" who took a family vacation camping on a beach and another that I think is going to go on a cruise. Getting that degree will be a wonderful accomplishment. What do you think would be the most perfect way to celebrate? (And to make it really interesting-let's pretend that money is not a factor.) I'm looking forward to hearing your ideas, especially since quite a few of you are a lot more creative than I am.

To get this started-Maybe a month long vacation spent hiking along the Lewis and Clark trail. It would be glorious to be off work and outside for that long.

While I was still considering which of the "Big Three" to gain my future degree from, I requested Prospecti from the TESC and COSC (EC has it all online).

I rather like what I read in both EC and TESC. I have a Slight problem with the material presented in the COSC.

I really do not intend to bash this institution, but I am really bothered by its degree program.

Upon completion of the required courses, a degree in "General Studies" is awarded.

Charter Oak's credit requirement is actually the most open-ended, I've ever seen, which means that after you fill the General ed requirements, you can take ANYTHING else to fill the numbers. This is Great, but.....

What is General Studies?

After Filling the General Ed requirements, There is a specified number of Credits filled by courses YOU choose, to fulfill the "Concentration."

The Concentration isn't labled on the diploma, however.

to me, "General Studies" is Just "General Studies"

It looks a lot like the requirements of the Arts degrees that are offered by TESC and EC. I may be comparing Catalopes and Honeydews, but to me, the name, "Arts", sounds so much more appealing than "General Studies." Plus there is the added bonus that the Major is included on the Degree.

I believe many would choose a Major over a Concentration. Including prospective empolyers.

Again, I really don't mean to bash on COSC, nor do I wish to change the path of current COSC students.

This College actually provides, what I've concluded is the "Path of least resistance" towards getting any of its four degrees ( AA, AS, BA, and BS). And for those not influenced by a name, and those only concerned with personal accomplishment, Keep on it!

Even I would accomplish a BSGS much fast if I went this route ( as they will use my Tech Credits), But I am interested in the name, and thus decided to gain my degree elsewhere.

Granted each one of us is knowledge in different areas.
But which one of the following...do you recommend taking first.

Vote for the one subject that you think a 'newbie' should test out on to get "their feet wet with" doing a clep test.
In order words, if some one had NO knowledge what so ever in these choices.
What is your opinon of the easiest test you took.
And what specific study guide did you use for that test. (list your score if you like)

Which one do you recommend as a supplemental to IC study guide?

Just would like your recommendations. These were the only printed books that I could find on this clep course.
(And the only difference I could find in option 1 & 2 was the edition release date.)

The OTHER could mean InstantCert WITH an additional study guide (please specify what guide you recommend).

If you are a Veteran with MGIB, did you know you can get reimbursed for CLEP and other tests now? I thought it was only active duty who could get them free but was apparently wrong.

Since the test center had a opening and I had the time I went ahead and took US History 1 this morning also. Passed with a 65. There were more questions on women's roles and concerns than I had expected but other than that I think that IC was plenty. The breakdown of the exam on collegeboard.com was right on the money. As someone else has said-this is a broadbased exam. So knowing the major people and events is the key.
