What a deal! Just $5 per exam

I have my hopes up and fingers crossed that they'll bring out some proper STEM degrees, and not just business degrees.

Haha, for what it's worth...that's what I was telling people who can get into this program, it's $5/exam, that's just the proctoring fee. There are no extra fees as these proctoring fees aren't even from Saylor Academy/Saylor University, it's from the proctoring agency. Saylor doesn't have fees and/or tuition, their price won't go up, unless they change the provider. Previously, they used ProctorU and the fee was $25 each exam for proctoring, you're getting this for so much cheaper than before. I always look for the affordable options, Saylor and the MOOCs are the ticket...

To my understanding, Saylor Academy was able to use the designation University because it has now become a degree-granting postsecondary institution in the state of Florida. What would it take for them to gain recognition from CHEA? $5 is dirt cheap for an exam, and although they have ASIC accreditation, I am curious how it is compared to other programs/universities in the U.S. that have national/regional accreditation behind them.

CHEA doesn't matter. They don't recognize individual universities, and not all institutional accreditors are members of CHEA—NECHE, Middle States, and WASC Senior have all dropped their memberships.

If you mean what would it take for them to get accreditation from a NACIQI-approved institutional accreditor, then the same thing it would take any other institution. The good news there is that one of the main things for that is healthy finances, and Saylor has money. So if they're interested, I expect they can do it pretty handily.
