Flunked And Not By Just Alittle
Posted by: RBOWMAN - 05-30-2006, 07:01 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (19)

Let it be known by all I hate science and it hates me!!!!!!! I will not remain defeated though as I have to be done by June 30th inorder to graduate from TESC in September. I must..I must and there is no if ands or buts about it. Ihave to figure out how to get 3 science credits faster than Haley's comet. I need to get back on track with a vengence. So I need to find a course that TESC will accept and I can pass. Suggestions? I have come to rely on Instantcert to be by security blanket and without it natural science got the better of me. I need a study guide that will prepare for my test and I can confidently feel I will pass. The counselor at TESC suggested DDST'S physical science or geology.Any other ideas or should I go for one of them? I need to get this done by the middle of next week..passed and all. Sorry team for letting us both down big time! Ron[/SIZE]

Hitting The Do Not Report Score Key??
Posted by: RBOWMAN - 05-29-2006, 09:30 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (25)

If Iam Looking Back At My Just Completed Clep Test And Am About To Hit The Report Or Do Not Report Score Button, The Overall Implications Of Hitting The Do Not Report Score Means :

A. I Just Spent $70.00 And Said Goodbye To It
B. My Score Will Not Be Reorted To My College
C. I Can Retake This Test Without Waiting 6 Months
D. All Of The Above Are True

So What Is The Correct Answer. I Have Never Hit That Button After Completing A Clep Test And I Really Do Not Know Its' True Pluses Or Minuses And I May Not Even Know How To Spell The Plural Form Of Plus Or Minus!! Insight On The Do Not Report Button ??

Thanks..ron

I thought maybe it would be good to start a thread on what subject area is our strength and if someone else wants help on testing questions or our exam experience.Hopefully, we could be a resource for that person to turn to and get help. I would feel very comfortable in offering advice and insight on :

The two U.S. History courses and American Govt. and
The Clep business courses

Just holler if you need help.

Memorial Day Thought And Thank You
Posted by: RBOWMAN - 05-29-2006, 04:24 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

Iam taking a less than fun test tomorrw..science. I cannot help but reflect on the fact that the opportunity to take this and all the other tests we have all taken has been brought to us by the sacrifice of so many others. Without their sacrifice, their ultimate sacrifice I would not be taking this or any other test. Our lives would be altered to an extent that none of us can possibly imagine. So, let me say to all of the men and women who are serving our country now or in the past.. I am ,as is my family, forever in your debt!! Thank you for all the opportunities you have given to all of us... no one can ever pay a higher price or show a greater love to all who follow.

God Bless You All

Pray for me that this coming Tuesday afternoon God takes over my clep test in Natural Science and guides me through this test. Iam as unprepared as anyone can be and my natural science intelligence would fill a small glass with a large leak in it! Just two tests to go and why in the world they have to be my most unfavorite subjects would only tell you that when I planned out my testing schedule I was apparently "OUT TO LUNCH". Yeah baby this is gonna be good. Stay tuned for the catastrophy!!!

For Anybody Taking ECE Psych UL Exams

Check out this very informative thread that I found at another board regarding preparing for ECE Abnormal Psych, Adulthood and Aging and Gerontology:

Laura

I posted about this before. All I used for Abnormal Psych was what was in the Princeton Review "Cracking the GRE Psychology" book in the abnormal section (which is only like 3-4 pages) and made sure I knew AND understood every single item on the Spark Chart for Abnormal Psych. http://www.sparknotes.com/psychology/#abnormal
HTH and Congrats on the B!!!

I plan on following your advice Laura. I'll let you know how I do.

Thanks for the help!

I passed the Excelisor AB test

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks Laura, your advice was dead-on. I just got back from taking the exam (B) and can say with confidence that the Sparknotes and the GRE book are exactly what it takes to pass the exam.

Next up is Psychology of Adulthood and Aging. Do you have any words of wisdom for that one?

Thanks again,
Greystone (3 more and done)

I took that one cold but if you study the Developmental Psych Spark Notes (click on the link for the abnormal and scroll up) make sure you know the stages of grief, and use a bit of common sense you'll do fine. (Use the GRE book too for the developmental stuff). The "Aging" part is more sociology orientated even though they call it a psych test. Oh, know Maslow (Hierarchy of Needs), Baumrind, Erickson for sure. You have to know the difference between the psych theories: Behaviorism/Cognitive/Freud's stuff. HTH

Thanks Laura! The advice about "using a bit of common sense" really paid off. I didn't feel prepared for this exam and was just hoping to pass but in the end I got an (A), my first on an Excelsior exam. Listen to Laura is the new golden rule. I have the Foundations of Gerontology exam scheduled for this Sunday, wish me luck.

LOL I wish I could convince my kids of that! Glad I could help. Gerontology was harder than I expected it to be (I'm an "A" student and this one was my only B.) Just fair warning. There were alot more questions on public policy than I was prepared to answer and I couldn't even begin to tell you where to get the information. One important tidbit to remember: Aging does not in and of itself cause dementia or loss of intelligence. Aging only interferes with the elderly's access to information... they are slower. So anything that is distracting or that doesn't allow a longer period of time is going to affect the elderly. An example: When young adults and the elderly were given timed IQ tests the elderly scored significantly lower. When the same test was given to both groups with no time limit the older adults took longer to complete it... but scored comparably. That little tidbit should help you answer a plethora of questions on the exam. The policy questions killed my score (FYI) so if you can find a good resource for info on current public policy for the elderly you'll be a step ahead of where I was when I walked into the test. By public policy I mean trends in housing, healthcare, etc and the myriad of agencies responsible for said dissemination of services. I had NO clue and my score suffered for it.

Excelsior Gerontology Exam

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got an (A) on the Gerontology exam. This test is very similar to the Psychology of Adulthood exam. If anyone is thinking of taking the Excelisor Psych exams, I recommend taking them in the following order:

1. Abnormal Psychology (B)
2. Psychology of Adulthood (A)
3. Social Gerontology (A)

Taking the exams in this order makes the test preparation a little easier and results in higher grades.

Thanks Laura for all the Advice!
