Any certifications or military experience? No

Budget: 1700 per 8-week session of YourPace.

Commitments: Full time job at a school so I get out early in the afternoon, I have all afternoon and most evenings and weekends to study. No kids.

Dedicated time to study: 3+ hours a day, including weekends

Timeline: It depends on how many classes I have to do, but I'd love to be done in 2-3 sessions!

Tuition assistance/reimbursement: My workplace has tuition reimbursement but it's not guaranteed.

I have speculated on what my degree plan might look like. I don't have a transfer eval from UMPI yet so I'm using the degreeforum wiki for Sophia equivalents and MaineStreet for CC equivalents.

EDUCATIONAL MINOR CORE REQUIREMENTS (24 credits required)
There are 7 classes and I will be doing these at UMPI. EDU 152, 153, 210, 287, 302, 305, and 357.

FREE ELECTIVES (56 credits required)

First I put everything here that I didn't use for a gened. Not all will be accepted for transfer. These are just my guesses. Strikeouts are ones that either I know won't transfer or I don't think will transfer.

Community College- 31 credits
BUS 111 Intro to Business 3cr
ENG 103 English Comp 1 3cr*
PSY 101 Principles of Psychology 3cr
MAT 105 Introductory Algebra 3cr
MAT 106 Intermediate Algebra 3cr
PCS 101 Public Speaking 3cr
BIO 194 Comp A & P 4cr
MAT 107 College Algebra 4cr
SCI 103 Astronomy 4cr
ENG 247 Women in Literature 1 3cr
HIS 106 Hist of Amer People Since 1865 3cr
GEO 101 Planet Earth 4cr

Sophia- 15 credits
Personal Finance 3cr
Intro to Python Programming 3cr
Business Ethics 3cr
Intro to Chemistry 3cr
Anatomy & Physiology 1 3cr**
Microbiology 3cr

*Eng Comp 1 from CC won't transfer because I did it both at CC and on Sophia. I had a reason why.
**A&P 1 probably won't transfer because I did Comp A&P (with lab) at CC.

Total free electives- 46 credits (need 56)

44+46 is 90 credits, the max I can transfer in

MY QUESTION:

Do I need to take anything else on Sophia? Does this mean I'll have to take the remaining 10 elective credits at UMPI and should they be upper level so I can also meet the upper level requirement? What is the UL requirement? I want to make sure I have taken enough on Sophia so that if something does not get transferred in the way I think it will, it will be replaced with something else.

Thank you in advance for your help. I appreciate the time and effort people put in to help here at no cost.

  I wanted a different calling
Posted by: Charles Fout - 07-16-2024, 08:41 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (3)

Tomorrow is Glioblastoma Awareness Day.

By God's Grace, I have lived withGlioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) since Veterans Day 2016.

I am doing remarkably well.

Nothing before prayer, nothing after prayer.

I'm called to shout out loud- We can overcome  hard challenges and be the people we aspire to be.

https://youtu.be/m8cx5VKElN0?si=SWtnrct6pb0WeyT4

My treatment plan is is exactly the same as the one described for musician Gord Downie, It is the world-wide standard of care.
I provide the video because I think it's thebest explanation of GBM and treatment available
My neurosurgeon, Agostino Visioni excised the entire tumor. I cried each Radiation theraphy session. My maintenance Chemo theraphy cycles exhaust me. I am so very grateful for all of the care provided by my incredible medical pros
My initial team of medical professionals, all associated with Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia, are incredible. The University of Virginia Cancer Center have now taken the lead role in my care, because we moved so far away from Fredericksburg.

I am so grateful for this opportunity to move toward the person I aspire to be.

Faith in Our Lord my, incredible wife, support from my high school classmates, international Judo/SAMBO/Jiu-jitsu community, community theater. has been incredible.

Keep praying. Heart Heart Big Grin

Potential hack to get admitted into Master's without Bachelor's
Posted by: CollegeStudentAC - 07-16-2024, 02:12 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (27)

Uniathena.com is partnered with Universities and awarding bodies to offers academic programs (undergraduate diploma, postgraduate certificates and diplomas, master's).

Unlike the postgraduate programs offered by the universities, postgraduate certificates and diplomas that are offered by awarding bodies do not have admission requirements.

You do not need a Bachelor's degree to enroll so a person could theoretically do one of these programs and then go into a US master's where the requirement is a Bachelor's degree or higher.

You can finish a postgraduate certificate in as little as 21 days and a postgraduate diploma in as little as 2 months.

Of course, ultimately it would be up to the foreign evaluation service's results.

Thoughts?

Or you can theoretically try a non-US school like ENEB.

SDC: Taking Advantage of the New Members Promo
Posted by: legenwait4itdary - 07-15-2024, 11:47 PM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (4)

Hi,

I have done a few courses with SDC and have a few more to do but because I am not a new member I cannot take the advantage of their promo (70 something USD for new members).

Would setting up a new account with SDC work? Are there are issues/problems I should be aware of before doing it? I would love to save the money but on the other hand I do not want to be banned from the SDC as I have a few more courses to do with them.

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

  Wilmington University MSCS
Posted by: Jonathan Whatley - 07-15-2024, 06:46 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (3)

Wilmington University is launching a new online MS in Computer Science with a choice of concentration in either Data Science or Software Engineering.

Students without a computer science, technology, or similar bachelor's degree can complete four undergraduate courses to qualify to enter.

Under Wilmington's Dual-Credit Advantage program, students in an eligible Wilmington bachelor's program can incorporate master's-level courses that will apply to both their bachelor's and their master's. For the MSCS, "Eligible undergraduate programs include the BS in Computer Science, the BS in Game Design and Development, the BS in Web Design, the BS in Information Systems Management, the BS in Applied Technology and the BS in Cybersecurity." (And at the undergraduate level, Wilmington is relatively friendly to alt-credit and prior learning assessment.)

PhD program requirement conundrum - Publication route
Posted by: Sarit1046 - 07-15-2024, 03:26 PM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (6)

Hi all, I am a doctorate student in a rather specialized program. I will not mention the topic, as it's very unique, and I don't want to badmouth the university, but I'm wondering if anyone has run into this unique situation.

This school provides the option of either a dissertation or publication route, with the publication option having required acceptance of three research articles into peer-reviewed journals approved by one's chair. Over the past two years, I have only been able to afford two of the 10 required courses, thanks to career/family financial struggles, but have kept working with my doctoral chair intermittently and managed to have three articles accepted into peer-reviewed journals approved by my chair. Fast forward almost three months later, and I am about to present this research orally for the second time at an upcoming conference, yet cannot get in touch with my chair, and had both the former doctoral dean and graduate advisor also stop communicating even when I offered to pay off the required remaining eight courses (these courses have no content aside from working toward the final deliverables).

Since then, the new doctoral dean also seems to have vanished in communication, and I checked back to find that the publication requirement specification on their website no longer goes into detail about articles or journals - only one mention of "dissertation/publication". So in a nutshell, I am not particularly wanting to pay $48k for courses that - aside from the defense course - are virtually moot, now that the articles have already been accepted. Above all, I definitely don't want to pay that amount without a guaranteed pass at this point.

Has anyone else encountered a similar issue, and if so, how did you handle it? Thanks in advance!

Specifically,  I am trying to find out if the following courses can be done on SDC
COS - 2410 Data Structures
MAT - 2700 Discrete Mathematics
COS - 2400 Operating Systems
COS - 3300 Computer Architecture

If anyone also knows alternative ways to get these credits please let me know?

CBE program for data analysis or data science?
Posted by: FreeAgnes - 07-15-2024, 09:26 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

My husband is looking into getting into data science but wants a degree instead of being self-taught and prefers a CBE program. I know about WGU but am trying to find other programs to consider. He wants a bachelors and then ultimately move on to a master's. I've seen a lot of self-paced, but they aren't really CBE that i can tell (they seem to be used interchangeably but dont really seem comparable?). I've gone cross-eyed at this point researching and am looking for y'all's help. I'm essentially looking for a list of programs instead of degree plans, but can fill out the template if needed.
