Pierpont AAS BOG planning advice
#1
Big Grin
Hello,

been out of college for almost 22 years now. When I was at college, my parents did not give one cent towards me and I was holding down two jobs just to afford to go. Quit because the cost was just too much for me to handle and I did not want to go in debt for the next 15 years because of the student debt.

Now, I'm interested in Piepont's AAS BOG. I'm also interested in a bachelor from either UMPI or TESU. But first comes the AAS BOG, it will be a nice boost to get me going.

I don't have my old transcripts at the moments but here is a list of the some of the old classes I took at the city community college 22 years ago:

--ENGLISH COMPOSITION  I     3 credit
-ENGLISH COMPOSITION II       3 credit
-APPLIED COMPUTING 101       3 credits
-SOCIOLOGY 101                     3 credits
-WORLD GEOGRAPHY 101      3 credits
-FRENCH LANGUAGE   I           3 credits
-PSYCHOLOGY        101          3 credits

All of those classes I scored either an A or B in.

I did take some Math classes at the community college back then but they were lower level math and I don't think they would count for the Math/Science requirement at Pierpont

So, I guess I would need to first take 6 hours of Math or Science to get the that Math/Science requirement out of t he way. Can someone recommend 6 hours of easy science from one of the online low-cost college credit places (Sophia, Saylor, Straighterline, Onlinedegree, etc..) Math was always my weak point so I prefer science.

If someone could make a degree plan for me with the quickest and cheapest possible way to accomplish the BOG AAS that would be great.

A few more questions:

1- How long do Sophia, Saylor, and Straighterline courses take to complete?
2- Do Pierpont, TESU, and UMPI still accept credits for complete TADA?
3- Which is cheapter and easier to obtain the BLS from UMPI or TESU?
4-The computer class I took at my old community college was just called "Applied Computing 101", do you think I should take another computer class from Sophia or one of the others just one the safe side to meet the Computer requirements. Or is Pierpont pretty easy going to rewarding old credit?

Like I said, if someone or even everybody Big Grin could make a mock degree plan for my BOG AAS adventure that would be great! The one who can come up with the cheapest and quickest plan is the winner.

Thanks so much!!

Here is the wiki page for Pierpont - https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Pierpont_C%26TC
Sophia is all the you would need (and it is the lowest cost)
I would recommend UMPI (as it would be cheaper and quicker)
Amberton - MSHRB
TESU - ASNSM/BSBA

Definitely get your transcripts. Even if it was "lower level" math, if it was done for credits then it might count for Pierpont. If you want to be sure, I'd do College Algebra and Environmental Science at Sophia. You will need Algebra anyway, if you continue on to a Bachelor's degree, and Sophia's is pretty quick and easy for being Algebra.

As for your other questions:
1. This depends on you. I would skip SL for now because they're generally the most expensive to complete. Saylor courses probably take the longest, unless you already know the material. If you think you might know the material fairly well, you can take the exam for $5 and then focus on the unfamiliar parts to study - if you don't pass. Sophia classes depend. Some of them can be finished in a few days, some take a few weeks. Some take longer.
2. Yes, Coursera credits are still accepted at all 3 schools. You can see some equivalencies here: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Coursera
3. Depends on how you feel about writing. If you're okay with writing, UMPI will hands-down be the cheapest and easiest. If you aren't great with writing, UMPI will likely be cheaper but maybe not easier. If you'd prefer to try to avoid writing as much as possible, TESU will cost more but may be easier.
4. This will probably work, but it wouldn't hurt to take Intro to IT at Sophia to be safe. This is one of those classes that should be pretty quick and easy. Simply by virtue of using a computer, you probably know the answer to most of the questions without having to read the text.

Without knowing exactly what you took and what credits you were awarded, creating an exact degree plan is kind of impossible. But, based on what you've listed, you've met the communication requirement. Math/science may be met, but you should take Algebra and Environmental Science anyway. Social sciences requirement is met. Computer literacy may be met; take Intro to IT anyway.

You listed 7 classes, for a total of 21 credits. Assuming you have no more credits, if you take Algebra, Environmental Science, and Intro to IT, that's 30 credits out of 60. Follow https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Pi...egree_Plan to continue on to UMPI and/or simply complete as many credit-bearing TADA certificates as possible. Any 3 Google or IBM credit-bearing certificates should get you to at least 30 more credits.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

@NapoleonInRags, great first post and introduction, it has some information but not most of the details or info, as I would have more questions just to get a better overview of your situation. It really depends which state you're in, your personal study habits, if you're qualifying for a full grant or partial grant, etc. Question, what does the winner get? <grin> someone can get you there closest to that goal if you have the energy/time to go through with the plan... And, I noticed you missed the template and addendum here, you should fill us in with any extras you haven't shared yet: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works
