AAS options post-Pierpont
#41
I did not miss deadline, they forgot about me in administration changes, and are trying to "play me off". (they just didnt send me mail they claimed too, they never processed my sent transcripts)

To be frank (and to say no more on it)
I am not a bold man, but I am not one to be trifled with, I shall ream their stitch, and they will rue being rude to me

Its honestly time to move on leave the school alone. Your fighting an uphill battle which you are losing and now you are letting it affect your mental state and you are burning time when you could be using that time to go to UMPI , finish the 30 credits in one semester (8 weeks) people are flying through classes there between 1 to 3 days each.

No, fine, the time for turn around on complain/resolution, will gain me nothing useful. (I will leave the process where it is, if it bares fruit, so be it)
Still, I expected better.

In a positive light ... I am no slouch, lol, you can view my progress in my "degree help" question thread

Pierpont is clearly wrong about their BOG degree requirements and this is proven by all the other WV colleges and universities offering the BOG degree who do not require 12 RA credits be taken at their institution.

No where in the BOG guidelines does it state or imply that 12 RA credits must come from Pierpont or a WV school to meet the BOG requirements.

Now they do have the option of requiring that 3 credits be taken at Pierpont but that is optional ("may").

As I and others have argued before, Pierpont is missing an opportunity to profit off this degree by requiring a special 3 credit course like, "The History of West Virginia" at Pierpont and pricing the entire degree for around $2000-$4000. They just need to keep the pricing right below any equivalent RA Associates Degree. It could be a literal gold mine but with money to support the staff necessary to oversee it.

Eastern WV: At least 15 of the 60 credits hours must be completed at Eastern
WV Northern: 12: A minimum of 12 credits required at the host institution.
12 RA, 3 host: BridgeValley, Mountwest, WVU at Parkersburg (may not accept international students), Southern
I couldn't find the requirements on Blue Ridge or New River. They were previously 12RA 3 host but is now missing on their BOG homepage/catalog.

It seems like we should to wait for the new academic catalogs.

Two points of interest:
1. $787.25 might be possible at Mountwest. While Out of state tuition is usually $512.67 per credit hour, the Transportation Technology Online Program is 205.75 per credit hour no matter the residency. A $40.00 per credit hour course fee will be assessed for any course designated as 100% online + $50 program fee (50% <6 credit hour)
$787.25 = $245.75 per credit hour * 3 credit hours + $50. I didn't see a portfolio fee on the tuition/bog pages.
I do not know if this works. You would probably have to apply for the transportation tech program first, complete a 3 credit hour course, transfer to the BOG, and graduate.
EDIT: There may be entrance requirements for the Transportation tech program. An outdated catalog page had a CDL cert as a requirement. May not be viable

2. Ohio residents qualify for WV tuition at WVU parkersburg so $564 is viable for Ohio people. No mention of a portfolio fee either.

My mother is returning to college to knock out her degree. Fortunately, when she turns 60 soon, college will be free for her at our local community college. She did submit her stuff to Pierpont last year, but unfortunately, we've never heard back from them. She's interested in doing UMPI in the near future, but she is disappointed in that nobody has returned her calls or emails.

I just confirmed at Eastern you need 15 credits completed at Eastern, not any other RA college. Also they do not accept Sophia, since they require proof that the Sophia exams were taken at a certified testing center, which is not even an option with Sophia. They were kind enough to evaluate my unofficial transcripts, so I didn't have to wait for the official ones to arrive (by mail from RA college). It's possibly a very good option for someone with enough credits from another RA college, and just needs 15 credits to finish. Then you can take those 15 online here.
WV Northern: Their current catalog for 2025-2026 shows only 3 credits required there. I just applied and will update the results. Do not know if they take Sophia.

I am curious if WV Northern offers an "Area of Emphasis". That would be awesome.

Also note they state:

Quote:"Residency Requirement: 12 credit hours from a regionally accredited higher education institution. A minimum of 3 credits required at the host institution. Petition for exception to the residency requirement may be made to the Chief Academic Officer of the host institution."

When I emailed all 9 WV colleges before COVID, they mentioned the required 12 RA credits and just 3 credits residency for most of them. I would be on the lookout to see if they've made this a real requirement that they'll enforce or not. WVNCC and Pierpont were the last to go that didn't have any residency requirements, the bulk of them should still indicate at least 12 RA and 3 credits with them for residency...
