Possible Pierpont BOG Alternative? EWVCC
#1
Kinda disappointed that Pierpont BOG now requires 12 institutional credits from Pierpont (Roughly $7-8k out of state). I wanted to help a family member finally get a college degree after so long.

I found the BOG program at Eastern West Virginia Community College

They require:
1. 60 credits total
2. Minimum 12 RA credit
3. Minimum 3 institutional credits (Tuition is same for in state/out state?) - Roughly $600 for 3 credits
4. They say that they take ACE and NCCRS credit but no specific language on Sophia, Study.com, Coursera, etc
5. 1 year after high school (So 19 year olds can get this?)
6. Cannot have any associates/bachelors degree already

In Total (Example Plan)
1. Sophia = $ 100x2 months = $200 for 48 credits
2. ASU UL = $425 x 3 courses = $1275 for 9 credits
3. EWVCC = $188 x 3 credits = $564 for 3 credits

Total for BOG EWVCC = $2039

$2000 is not super great for what we're used to here at $350 for the Pierpont BOG

Of course, the 9 other RA credits can be taken elsewhere such as Luna CC for $51/credit out of state (6 credits max per semester).

If one uses Luna CC, the total cost could be potentially be $1070.00 .

(I'm just a fan of super easy ASU UL self-paced courses).

Edit: They offer a few areas of emphasis with 15 credit requirements:
1. Administrative support
2. Business
3. Computer Information
4. Early Childhood Development
5. Information Technology
Career goals:
Physician - Anesthesiology - Health Tech, Innovation and Engineering

The XAMK videogame course is still an option until Dec 31st. I think they are leaving it free and next year it will still be offered flr a fee.

Someone could attempt to get a Xamk transcript evaluated and see if those 35 ETCS are accepted along with the ASU 1 credit course for 25 USD. 225 USD for the ACEI evaluation and the ASU courses could be a valuable option. I also wish to mention University Helsinki has some open MOOCS such as the Dog and the Cat courses worth together around 5 ETCS. Helsinki has a few Python, AI ethics and Networking freebies. The dog and cat courses cost money to transcript, but the Computer courses are free and can be done quickly.

Someone could send those transcripts and see if they accept them as RA credit.

For ACE credits, the TEEX classes if accepted could also further reduce the cost.

There are also some asynchronous options out there for free or cheaper RA credits that can be used for the 9 outside RA credits required:

Clackamas Community College + Jacksonville State University - 4 free credits
Tohono O’odham Community College - $34.25/credit = ~ $205 total for 6 credits

Certs Completed: Scrum CSPO/CSM | Google PM/Data Analytics/Marketing

If this school accepts NCCRS credit, take the dip now and nab those 33 freebie credits at Onlinedegree while you can if you are a US citizen/greencard holder.

Most of the 9 WV community colleges have the same requirements, they just need 3 residency credits, 12 RA, you want to make sure they will take the CLEP or ACE alternative credits and allow you to max that transfer into their BOG AAS. As another example - You can also investigate WVNCC as they only require 3 credits residency, it may be best to see which of the 9 WV CC's have emphasis or minors you can take, then ladder or transition to UMPI, TAMUC, TESU, WGU, etc.

Maybe it could be a good idea to make a new wiki page mentioning these 9 schools and their AOE options in case someone wants a specific AOE that isn't Business or Computer science.

I have watched multiple people complete their UMPI bachelor's degree for around $2k. They take as much as they can from Sophia and transfer to UMPI. Take whatever courses they have remaining and are done in 1 term. Can everyone do it? No. But if someone has the drive and determination, they can do it.

It looks like not all West Virginia Community College BOGs are created equal?

Bridge Valley Commuinity Collge BOG
Requirements
1. 60 Credits Total
2. 12 RA credits
3. 3 Institutional Credits
4. If transferring ACE, you must take a portfolio course (GNST130 - 3 credits) and pay $300 + $10*(Per Credit)
5. So you could be paying 3 Credits*(476) + $300 + $10*(57 credits) = $2300 even BEFORE getting ACE credits or the 9 other RA credits.

At this price point, its way cheaper and faster to just do Sophia/SDC and complete a UMPI BLS degree, and skip the BOG entirely.

I think Eastern West Virginia CC is unique in that tuition is the same in-state/out-state and it doesn't appear there's any portfolio assessment fee.
