has anybody used Global Freshman Academy/ Earned Admission Program from Arizona State

Does anybody have experience with ASU's Earned Admission program that was previously called Global Freshman Academy.  You can take freshman level classes and only pay for them if you like the grade you go.

Thanks for bringing this up. I was actually going to start a thread about it when I got home.

Real quick: Some things I noticed:
-the change from GFA to EA came with a reduction in price from $650 per course to $425 per course.
-the algebra and precalculus courses just use aleks, so don't waste your time on those if you're going to big 3.
-you can audit them all for free or pay the $25 fee to take it potentially for credit(and then you pay $400 AFTER you pass IF you want credit)
- it would actually be a good deal for the chemistry course since it's a 4 credit lab course using a virtual lab embedded in the system with no extra lab/technology fees

To me, it seems like a great concept for a university. Letting you try the courses and if you don't pass, don't like it, etc, you're only out $25. Obviously, we're accustomed to cheaper alternative options for some of those courses, but that's still a great deal for RA credit from a university.

Looking at all their courses they offer, how do you think they would transfer to other institutions other than ASU?  I'm trying to figure out if it is worth it to take them or not.  I want to make sure they will transfer.  I know they are a Regionally Accredited institution so that should help.

Most RA universities should accept the credits earned from ASU since they are a well known and respected RA university. However, you would have to talk to an advisor at your desired destination school to know for sure.

Marylunde, I know you mentioned in your other thread about having test anxiety and such, so be advised that the ASU earned admissions courses also have remotely proctored exams. I talked to them earlier and they said most of the courses have a proctored midterm AND final.

I wish I could find a school that does not do proctored exams.  Do you know any???

Unfortunately, no. Maybe a course here and there, but I can't think of a way to finish an entire degree without once doing a proctored test. As davewill said before, if you have a diagnosed medical condition, they are required to make reasonable accommodations for you per the Americans with disabilities Act.

My daughter took ASU/GFA courses and was accepted to ASU as well - through the program. However, costs are too high at ASU, so she just transferred her credits to TESU. The credits do show up on the ASU transcript as regular ASU courses (no different than in person ASU courses). Thus, they transfer as regular RA credits to any university that accepts RA credits. Also, most courses use online proctoring. However, English 101 and 102 are writing and project based courses that do not have tests. Therefore there is no proctoring. That said, now that it is a new platform, that might change

Very interesting idea though, if I needed any of those classes I'd consider it.

Wonder if they plan on adding more courses to the program. They've honestly got a pretty good selection for what they're trying to do, but would be nice for our purposes if they added more.

It does look like they're adding over time since I noticed more courses when looking into it this week than when I'd checked GFA a while back. Based on the purpose of the program, I don't think they plan to add anything beyond first year courses. I do think it would be super awesome if they added more lab science courses.
