XAMK question

Wasn't sure if I should start a brand-new thread or just bump this one...wanted to let anyone interested in the XAMK RA credits know that the XAMK Gerontological Nursing course came into TESU as GER-299, and with appeal, fulfilled my Area of Study course TESU GER-312 Biological Aspects of Aging.  I just had to take an extra UL Coopersmith PSY course to make up the UL deficit.

BTW, how did you go forth into "appealing" that course?  Which degree are you going for that requires GER courses for the AOS?

Thankfully, the course came into TESU as GER-299 which was very helpful.  Then, I asked my instructor from XAMK if she could provide an "official" syllabus (it corresponds almost exactly to TESU's course) and she did.  I attached that to my "appeal" email to my advisor.  I heard back in just a couple of days.  I am going for the liberal studies "health and wellness" degree and the GER-312 is an area of study requirement.  I had to make up the UL deficit by taking an UL Coopersmith PSY course.

Would you mind emailing me the syllabus? I took the course to transfer to TESU for the exact same thing

<gas> err... <gasp> wow, XAMK is making it possible for people to do the BALS-Health & Wellness concentration for cheaper! That's great news I guess for those looking at that option, another way to slice it is, if you're paying for 16 credits instead of the residency waiver fee, to take just the AOS courses required at TESU + cornerstone/capstone.

I'm REALLY happy about how it worked out on this course!  I agree that this particular degree concentration (18 credits mostly not alternative credit friendly) kind of forces the student to consider the 16-credit waiver option, and utilize the flat fee rate or PLA-route (which I think you pointed out to me a year or so ago  ).  It makes sense to stick as close to the 16 credits as possible without going over, if possible, to keep the costs down.  Finding two alternative courses for the AOS would still leave enough credits to meet the waiver requirement, and, is so much kinder to the pocketbook.  So, this was a win-win.

In terms of kin/biomechanics, I am waiting to see if XAMK makes English versions. They actually have Finnish versions already, and in general they are slowly translating their courses into English from what I can tell. So maybe in the near future? I will keep my fingers crossed for that lol.

However! You could ask your advisor about Coopersmith Clinical & Exercise Physiology I (SCI-303) and Clinical & Exercise Physiology II (SCI-304)? Both are upper level too. Maybe they would be willing to work with you on that?

If I cannot wait for XAMK any longer, I plan to argue that at least one of multidisciplinary assessment of functional abilities or cardiovascular and respiratory rehabilitation should count for FIT 230/250 or similar. I took the first one last semester and the other I am taking right now. If TESU says no, I will PLA it rather than taking a class at TESU - especially since I have the stuff from those two courses to build a portfolio with. I am not doing the 16 credit semester since mil-adjacent folk can TECEP their way to residency.

As a last resort I will take the class in Finnish and just pay the transcript translation fee though. I took Gerontological Nursing in Russian and used the Chrome browser extension to translate the webpages. It worked fine!

I've already appealed to the Dean to accept those specific Coopersmith courses without success.  As "the experts" here pointed out to me a year or so ago, this particular degree is NOT an alternative friendly choice, and as they almost always are, they were correct in their assessment and advice.  TESU honestly expects the exact courses for the area of study courses and I have not encountered any "give" at all  on their end.  That is why, finally, getting one course (Gerontology) that wasn't "exact" accepted is so amazing.  I'm fascinated by the idea of trying a course in Finnish (with translation help), wow.  Would LOVE to find all the area of study courses at XAMK (specifically Men's and Women's Health).  I would definitely go that route, but they would have to be course specific.  Thanks for the tip, I'm heading over there to look at their Kinesiology course.  I've turned on my pm, sorry about that.

But click on one and choose English as the language. Then, in the blue line across the top of the page, click on the "Documents" tab. Download your new Transcript of Records (TOR). Open it and confirm that it lists all of the classes you want to transfer.

Now, head to https://acei-global.org/evaluation-services/ Click the "Apply online now" button. "Academic Evaluation-apply online" link. Fill out the form. You're going to want the comprehensive course-by-course with grades.

Acei was used specifically due to the issues with getting WES and ECE to accept the transcript directly from me and not XAMK. ACEI was the only one at the time thay would, you can try a different one, we just know that one works

You would definitely need a syllabus and to appeal, but the course is free: Keys to lifestyle change part 1: Body structure and function (nonstop start), 5 cr - Xamk. "How our body operates normally and under load; Human anatomy, physiology and load physiology." It is specifically about biomechanics during exercise.

It is actually part of a four course series, and if it works out I think I may do all four since they would be nice elective credits anyhow. I use Edge and set it to autotranslate. It worked even during the exams when I took that one course in Russian. The only thing that would suck is paying for the translation, but generally there are so many courses in Finnish available as non-stop start that it may be worth it.

As an update - I checked my course registrations in Peppi and ordered a transcript to make absolutely sure: no paying for translations will be needed when getting the evaluation done!

The awesome folks at XAMK did it for me when they registered the courses on my study plan. I took a few classes now with titles that technically should be in Russian or Finnish, but they put translated English versions on my student record instead of the original language. For example, "Tehohoitotyö" is what one class is called in the registration system, but they entered it as "Intensive Care Nursing" on my transcript. Not sure if that will be a problem if I needed to get syllabi though, since a) that is in Finnish and b) the class obv has a different name.

Also I took a couple of exams now using the translate extension on Microsoft Edge. It definitely works better for Russian to English than Finnish to English, but it's still workable. With Russian it's actually hard to notice there is background translation going on, Finnish it's more obvious because compound phrases get translated as their constituent parts.

After getting the Xamk transcript evaluated through ACEI, and getting it into TESU transcript...

Will it appear with a grade (converted into a letter system, maybe?) or as a pass/fail?

Should I try to get a 5, and then I could get an A showing in TESU? (I know is not going to be considered for TESU´s GPA)

BTW, I´m doing: "The basics of financial aspects in leadership", I unenrolled from "Fundamentals of strategic management" since I got "Principles of Management" from Saylor.
