Which CLEP? Freshman College Comp or English Comp w/ Essay
#1
Just found out from my school that they will accept the CLEP Freshman College Comp or English Comp w/ Essay in order to satisfy the Comp I & II requirements (6 credits).

I don't know enough about the differences in these two exams to make a smart decision at this point. Any comments on either would be greatly appreciated!

Yesterday I did the English with Essay. You don't get your score right away, which is hard when you're used to instant gratification, but it wasn't that difficult.

I think that which one you take depends on how comfortable you are at writing essays. If that's no problem for you go for the essay exam.

I prepared by checking the Kaplan CLEP book out of the local library. It has practice tests, common mistakes and details on the types of questions that will be on the exam.

Good luck.

My school, Indiana University, only accepted the Freshmen comp. I found it quite easy, and liked the fact that there was no essay, and I got my score immediately, (71) and 6 credits.

I did the English Comp prep for quite awhile before I figured out that IU didn't accept that CLEP and I think it helped. I have read elsewhere that it's a good way to prepare for the Freshmen Comp.

If you read a lot in general, most of the answers will be obvious, or the right one will "sound right", just read carefully, because it's easy to reverse or miss the actual question being asked.

Good luck

The school I'm going to insists on either the Freshman College Comp w/Essay or taking two English courses on campus. I reckon I'll begin studying for the Freshman College Comp w/Essay in the next month. Are there any preferred study materials for this exam?

Well, after Here's To Your Health, I have to decide which one to tackle first: US History I or Freshman Comp w/Essay. Has anyone taken both of these and, if so, which would you recommend taking first?

Thanks,

Alaskan

Hi Alaskan,

Since these two exams are not related in any way, it really doesn't matter which order you take them in.

However, I would recommend you take the one you are most anxious about FIRST. Get it out of the way so that you can move on and focus on your other exams.

Hope that helps a bit,
