What are the steps to transfer Arizona University credit to Pierpont
#1
Hi everyone!!

I am still working hard with my Sophia courses, now at almost 70 credits.  Smile I got my grades for the 1 credit ASU course and feel confused about the dozens of options to request an electronic copy. I don't see a detailed step by step page on the wiki on which option is the best and if I should pay for the 15 or 5 dollar option. It feels overwhelming to see so many options that all seem correct.
I am waiting for Pierpont to revise the account I opened. I think they will have an issue with my highschool degree because it isn't in English. Is there a page on the wiki about which is the best option? Should I get it translated to English or use one of those services that can translate foreign diplomas by the batch?
A GED will be a huge headache for me. I have 50% of a GED, did and passed 2 of the 4 exams but they can only be done in a tiny office in 1 city on weekdays whch doesn't have good options for public transportation. The sticker price is also really complicated, they charge 75 usd per exam and I am still missing 2 of them.
So I wonder if they will not let me get a BOG degree despite having enough Sophia credit because of the highschool degree requirement.
I noticed the wiki mentioned they would forfeit the HS degree requirement if I get another 14 RA credits. I have really enjoyed my experience at ASU and wonder if my money would be better invested on their 400 usd online courses due to the sticker shock of doing the remaining GED exams abroad or translating my HS diploma.
Thanks you everyone! I have enough credits for a BOG emphasis in science, but I wish to give the ACTFL a shot and have it in Spanish instead. Just need to schedule an actfl exam.

@Avidreader, you're confusing yourself because of too little or too much info overload at times... I've skimmed your previous posts, threads and you're all over the place! It's OK, don't confuse yourself and follow these steps. I have a question, are you a citizen or a permanent resident? You need to be either before you can complete the BOG AAS, they'll contact you because of your foreign HS transcript.

1) ASU transcript is the $15 version. Send it to Pierpont, it's the only graded/RA you need.
2) Verify you have completed the 15 general education requirements using Sophia.org...
3) Verify again that you have at least 45 elective credits from Sophia.org to hit a minimum 60 total.
4) Optional: If you need an emphasis for the BOG AAS, make sure you have 15 credits in that emphasis.

As noted by bjcheung77, you need to be an American citizen or resident in order to get a Pierpont degree. Assumming you are:

You need to go to my.asu.edu and order the transcript from there. You want the $15 official transcript. I think the $5 one is the unofficial transcript? You're right that ASU is kind of absurdly complicated. I'll have to see if I can set up a wiki page about it later.

Depending on your age, you might not even need to do this. They don't always ask for proof of HS graduation.

They don't even have a page for non-BOG AAS international students, but I would assume that if you somehow DID need your HS degree then you'd go through a NACES member (https://www.naces.org/pdf/NACES-Current-Members.pdf). Avoid WES (World Education Services) but SpanTran has a pretty good reputation. You should only need the general (not course by course) evaluation: https://spantran.com/services/schedule-of-fees Feel free to shop around, though, for the evaluator with the best reputation for the country your diploma is from.

They might also accept just a straight official translation of your diploma and not an evaluation. This would be something to ask Nancy Parks.

As noted above, you probably don't need it!

They haven't always asked for proof of HS graduation. Because of this, Pierpont has been recommended for (and used by) students with a complicated education background who are unable to get proof of HS graduation for one reason or another.

This is complicated, but it appears Sophia counts for this.

As already noted, if you're abroad and not a citizen, you can't do the Pierpont degree.

Right now, the ACTFL exams are not available for credit. I would recommend contacting them to find out when they'll be ACE-recommended again. Otherwise, you've got Spanish I & II from Sophia, plus Spanish 105 at Study.com. The Spanish CLEP exam might or might not overlap, but taking a CLEP exam outside of the US is not a trivial matter. I'm not sure where else you could get another 6 credits of Spanish (outside of the ACTFL) without the price being horrible.

I was never asked for proof of HS graduation and I am a May 2023 graduate from Pierpont. Sophia and RA graded transcripts are all that was asked.

Thanks for these answers everyone! I am a US citizen. I didn’t know the actfl exams for ace credit might be an issue. I have indeed been eyeing the study.com spanish course for quite some time.

I know doing CLEP from abroad will be a huge hassle. What about Modern States? Could I sign up for that?

I will still do the actfl exams because I already paid for them. I have 67 sophia credits (will soon be 70 just waiting for a touchstone for a 3 credit course to be scored). I am curious about the math subject requirement. I have sophia statistics (the 3 credit course), haven't done the algebra sophia course yet. I am only halfway through the CSM math course, didn’t expect it to be so long so I am hoping Pierpont will accept statistics for the math requirement. The wiki seems to not agree on whether stats can be used for the math requirement. The BOG wiki says no, but the BOG to UMPI wiki says yes.

For the other requirements I have from Sophia Environmental Science, (well more like I have passed every science sophia course but I have only done the chemistry lab course), I have english 1 and visual communication.
I have US government, history 1, art history 1&2.
I have done intro to IT and the Intro to Web development course.
And I have Sophia's Spanish 1 and 2.

ModernStates is CLEP. They will cover the cost of the CLEP exam with a voucher and reimburse you for the testing fee after you take the exam. But, if you're not near a public testing center (and most people outside the US are not), getting to a testing center can be prohibitively expensive. A VPN might work to be able to take the CLEP online. But it also might not. Online CLEP is only supposed to be for students within the US (ugh).

I would not take the ACTFL exam you paid for until you contact them about the ACE credit recommendation. I would honestly even ask for a refund if you can't get an answer from them about when they'll be ACE-recommended again.

Stats should work for Pierpont. I need to update the page about that. Some of the recommendations were made when we didn't know very much about the Pierpont process.

ModernStates is a CLEP-prep course, and is not worth college credit in and of itself.

Do NOT do the ACTFL exams - you're paying a lot of money for NO college credit. ZERO.  Instead, call and ask for a refund.  And tell them you'll take the exams when they get ACE-recommendation for college credit.  Ask when that will be.

Do not do SDC's Spanish I or II courses, as they duplicate Sophia's courses.  You could do Spanish for the Workplace, but that's a waste of money if you don't need any other SDC courses.

Do not take the Spanish Language CLEP exam, that also duplicates the Sophia courses.  Again, a waste of time to try to figure out how to take the CLEP when you'll get 3cr at the most (if you pass with a 63 and get 9cr, the first 6cr duplicates).

@Avidreader, If you're taking Sophia.org Spanish I, skip all other things and continue with just the ASU for 1 credit RA/graded, and the rest of them do the Sophia.org courses as I mentioned and illustrated in my previous post above. You're doing extra work and going in all directions... If you want to do the CSM Learn course, that's fine for learning extra math/stats, do that last...

I already finished spanish 1 and 2 on sophia a few months ago. I finished the 1 credit ASU course, just need to send it to Pierpont. I have sent actfl an email about the AGE credit situation, still waiting for a reply.
What about Finnish online schools? They have Spanish 3 and 4 in some schools and others offer intermediate reading courses. Would that be an option?

Technically, if you're going for the Pierpont BOG AAS only, you should have enough credits already, it's overkill to get these extras. Having said that, we don't know your end goal. An example, if your end goal was UMPI BLS with a minor, you can take 90 credits of everything you mentioned in these posts above... voila, you go get those credits and ACTFL, everything you need to get you to the 90 credits for transfer... you just need to make sure those 90 credits get into the degree program of your choice (which is the BLS) and that BLS takes 60 credits of anything as electives.
