Wayland Baptist Online BSN Program
#11
What looks awesome to me is that the rest of it is ONLINE! This is nice because I work full time random hours. I'm trying to find out if the "To Your Health" CLEP test will work for the Concepts of Fitness requirement, they haven't gotten back to me. Anyone know?

Pyro: keep us informed on what you think of the school! I've heard very little inside info.

Hey guys.

Just got told today by my advisor, Nichel Hillman at WBU, that the following ONLINE science classes are accepted at WBU for the purpose of the Online Nursing Program:

UNE Online Microbiology for Health Professions
University of New England - COM - Online Education - Online Microbiology for Health Professions

and

UNE Online Medical General Chemistry I
University of New England - COM - Online Education - Online Medical General Chemistry I

They didn't confirm if the A&P would transfer over because I don't need them.

I am taking the UNE Online Microbiology this Dec/Jan.

Also here's the list of CLEPS they accept for the gen ed requirements. DSST are not accepted (sucks I took the Statistics DSST and it doesn't count).

BAD PLAN. Don't use the UNE-COM chemistry. The use of the word "medical" in the title (while it is accepted here in place of gen chem 1 with lab) can be tossed out in schools less flexible, so if you need to transfer or change majors, you'll be taking chem again Smile I'd stick with a generic gen chem.
*I'm enrolled at UNE-COM for science, it's VERY expensive. I strongly suggest you reconsider.

Courses taken from UTA will probably transfer anywhere.

Thanks for the advice but UNE is the last chance for me to take microbiology before feb. Army tuition assistance paid 1000 and I paid the rest.

In answer to my own question, the " To Your Health" is a Dantes test, which, as was just mentioned, is not accepted.

One problem I've found is that so far, they are very strict about their pre-requisite list. So far, even though I have 160 hours of college and a paramedic degree, I've gotten NOTHING waived. (Really? I TEACH first aid, advanced trauma life support, and advanced prehospital medicine and took 6 hours of PE and you want me to take a health and first aid class? Etc...) So here I am in an Instant Cert Forum... heheh.

Oh brother. That's like the kind of crap I got when I first started working toward a degree too (not with this school, but I understand how you feel).

Curious, did they say why your credentials didn't work? I'd like to get a feel for how they do things.

They weren't jerks about it, she just said they had a board that decides what they want everyone to take to represent a well educated Bachelor's level degree that speaks highly of their university, that sort of thing, and that she can't just override it.

Each class had it's own reason, and some were admittedly a stretch on my part. I took a year of Bio for science majors, but I needed specifically a micro class. I took social psychology, but that counted as a psychology in relation to society, not as a sociology class that I need. I took 'masterpieces of the western world', and it counted as world lit, but not american lit or british lit. I took a year of paramedic school, but none of that counted for my health class (as mentioned). The Old and New Testament classes have to be specifically taken at a Baptist school. I tried to pass my experiences with everything from delivering babies to holding the hand of the dying elderly, crossed with my 9 hrs of psychology, and get out of Human Growth and Development: to no avail. Her answer was basically, "if you think you know it, CLEP." So here I am.

I know you can take many of the pre-reqs along with the nursing school, but I'd like to keep my nursing load light so I can keep those grades up.

The good news? I just got an email 2 weeks ago that they DROPPED THE TUITION RATE BY 10K for the program. So I plan to suck up the massive pre-req load, as it's one of the only full BSN programs online where I can do the clinicals in San'Tone.
