Wayland Baptist Online BSN Program
#1
Hello everybody,

Posting this for fellow future Nursing students. I am starting the Wayland Baptist Online BSN program this February.

The Online BSN is basically taking classes online and doing your clinicals once a month over a weekend.

The prerequisites are pretty straightforward:
General Academic Core

ENGL 1301 Composition and Rhetoric
ENGL 1302 Composition and Reading
ENGL 2301 English Literature or
ENGL 2302 American Literature
ENGL 2303 World Literature
HIST 2301 U.S. History to 1877 and HIST 2302 – U.S. History Since 1877 or
HIST 1303 World Civilization to 1500 and HIST 1304 World Civilization Since 1500
MATH 1304 College Algebra
MATH 1306 Elementary Statistics
RLGN 1301 Old Testament History
RLGN 1302 New Testament History
COSC 2311 Computer Applications
POLS 2301 Federal and State Government
COMS 1301 Speech Communication
BIOL 3408 Human Anatomy and Physiology I
BIOL 3409 Human Anatomy and Physiology II
BIOL 3410 Microbiology
CHEM 1401 General Chemistry I
SOCI 1301 Introduction to Sociology
PSYC 1301 General Psychology
PSYC 2301 Developmental Psychology
Foreign Language (3 semester hours)
EXSS 1112 – Concepts of Fitness, plus two activity courses (3 semester hours)
Fine Arts Elective (3 semester hours) See degree plan for specific requirements

The pretty cool part about the program is you can start the actual Nursing classes while still having 27 credits of the general education requirements remaining, excluding the science courses (A&P 1 and 2, Microbiology, Chemistry.)

The program is over 21 months, divided into quarters. The tuition is 5k per quarter.

This program can be taken anywhere but the clinicals are in San Antonio, TX.

ooooooooo......oh wow, that looks really really good....hummmm, I might have to look more into this.
Do you know anything about clinicals? I can't find anything on the website- nothing!
Do you know NCLEX pass rate? It isn't listed on the FAQ.
Are you in Texas or will you be traveling?

The most recent Wayland Baptist pass rate was a relatively low 85%. See http://www.bon.state.tx.us/nursingeducat...LEX-RN.pdf

The rules for clinical hours are complicated, but it is reasonable to expect no less than 900 clinical hours. Online programs do not reduce the number of clinical hours.

85% is worrisome. 85 for the online program wouldn't be such a big deal to me, except that their ADN is ALSO 85%...ughhh. Not good. 900 hours over 21 months could still be done in 1 long weekend per month. I checked last night, our area used to have a direct flight on airtran from my city to san antonio. Only cost about $40. That's been discontinued though. The degree cost is good though, that estimate of $5-6k per term is only if you are doing all the gen eds. It's under $250 per credit. MUCH cheaper than the BSN program I interviewed for last night. ($544/cr) But, the program I'm looking at has an excellent pass rate, greater than 90%. So many decisions....

While I'm in a non-compact state, Texas IS a compact state, so if you are a resident of TX, that's a huge plus.

Also, someday maybe a MS in Forensic Psychology, just for fun.   Oh, and a BS in Animal Behavior.  And, maybe when I'm 85 a PhD in something fun.

Their FAQ lists a CLEP cap of 30. That clinical list looks AWESOME though.

I've been a member over there for a long time, I'm only lukewarm on how much I like the place.
