WGU---Hacking
#1
Hi,

I was watching Ryan on you tube.
He said Graduating WGU in a year, is super feasible.

Is this true?

What is the secret sauce for studying,
 and passing courses quickly?

Thank You1

Look up the WGU provided Program Guide and Sophia Learning/Study.com transfer agreements for your desired degree from their website. Knock out say 70-90 of the necessary credits through those relatively inexpensive services and industry certifications.

Look up the class material for your remaining classes. Prestudy before beginning your WGU term(s) at least for your hardest few classes that you know the least about. Then knock out your remaining classes in a year.

thank you!
Excellent advice!
SOLID PLAN!!!

In the you tube videos,
he says,
starting with 0 credits at WGU,
he has had students knock out all 120 credits in 3-12 months,
only taking self paced courses thru WGU

it is due to him teaching these people how to only study what is important.
i just thought that this is tremendous.

I was just trying to find out,
what this hyper-efficient study method was???

you're welcome

There's tons of studies and books about learning information quickly and can definitely help you complete courses faster. Spaced repetition, active recall, deep focus techniques. Of course getting good sleep, nutrition, time management. Completing 120 WGU credits at WGU in under a year just seems like an extremely stressful experience however that would only be feasible for someone unemployed and without other life commitments.

Sophia Learning is often used because it is open book. There's a chunk of your 120 credits that won't help your career in any direct way. i.e. IT major needing to take American Government or Geography etc. No reason to cram your brain with this for most people unless it really interests you. Schools are required to include these general education courses in accredited Bachelor programs which is great for young people who are still figuring out what they want, may change their major, need more grounding in the ways of the world. But for the typical adult learner who knows what field they want to go in, maybe already has a family, career, this is just not a good use of your focus and time to be memorizing supreme court cases or where Myanmar is on a map.
Take those at Sophia, use your book during exams (totally encouraged and allowed) and get your credits.

Study.com is similar, whole course is open book except for the proctored closed book final. If you get 100% on your open book quizzes you only need 55% on the final to pass the class. If it's a course with assignments and you do well on those you might need even significantly less than that on the final.

Of course, industry certifications are a great way to get credit at WGU. Often the study materials are available free on YouTube or extremely inexpensively at Udemy or used book store. WGU will give you credit for passing the cert, no reason to add the time constraint of getting it done within your WGU term UNLESS it's a very expensive cert and your employer won't cover it. Then it would make sense to include in your WGU term.

Your time, focus are valuable. Knock out your alternative credits first. then apply whatever hyper study techniques you find to just the classes that are most applicable to your goals and career or that alternative credit is unavailable for. This will be kinder to your wallet and life generally

I don't know who Ryan is, but it sounds like he's trying to sell you something. Instead of paying him for his advice, read the posts on this forum and the wiki at https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Degree_Forum_Wiki

I wondered about that too. If it is spam, it's smart, because it doesn't even tell us who Ryan is in the first or second post, it just leaves us hanging on the edge, waiting for us to ask, "I can't stand this anymore, who is ryan?"

I wonder if anyone's going to ask. I'm not. Ryan sounds like a scammer and I've encountered enough scammers on YouTube. I don't need to be referred to any.

IMO, this Ryan guy is giving out bad information.

He's telling people to start WGU or other colleges with zero credits or as few as possible. There's no data showing that employers care about how many alternative credits are on your transcript.

Once you start at WGU, you can't bring in any more credits. He's setting people on a path to failure when they realize how much time, money, and effort it will take to complete a WGU degree starting with few credits.

It's much better to maximize your credit transfer before starting college. You should go course by course and find the provider that allows you to complete the course the fastest. There are a few exceptions where taking the course at the college might be just as quick or quicker.
Degrees: BA Computer Science, BS Business Administration with a concentration in CIS, AS Natural Science & Math, TESU. 4.0 GPA 2022.
Course Experience:  CLEP, Instantcert, Sophia.org, Study.com, Straighterline.com, Onlinedegree.org, Saylor.org, Csmlearn.com, and TEL Learning.
Certifications: W3Schools PHP, Google IT Support, Google Digital Marketing, Google Project Management

This is not about a learning guide for WGU.
I was asking about Ryan from 9 month Grad on you tube.
I do not know him.
I was just asking questions, about some of the things he said in some of his videos!

I got some great answers!

How could this be spam,
when asking legit, on topic questions?

Don't take it personally. We get a lot of spam on this board that starts with "does anyone know about this [resource no one on this board has ever heard of]?" Often with a link to the website or scam, but not always.
In any case, I'm glad you are finding the advice you're helpful. I'm not sure why anyone would advise people to start at WGU without any transfer credits or certifications.
