There seems to be a LOT of general business classes in the WGU accounting degree. So, I'm wondering if it's more of a general business degree with some accounting classes added to it, and it's not a REAL-DEAL accounting degree. How does it compare to what most other schools would be teaching?
WGU Accounting degree only has 9 accounting classes:
WGU Accounting – B.S.
UMPI Business Admin degree w/ an accounting concentration has 10 accounting classes:
YourPace Business Administration, Accounting Concentration, B.A.
The UMPI Accounting degree has about 15 accounting classes:
YourPace Accounting, B.A
What do you guys think?
I made a thread about UMPI vs WGU accounting with a more detailed list of concerns & differences.
if you want to take a look it's in the UMPI forum:

Thanks.

According to the comments from many in the chat on the UMPI discord, the WGU accounting degree is superior to the UMPI, despite having fewer accounting classes. YMMV.

The way I see it, an accounting degree is essentially a business administration degree plus about 30 additional credits in accounting courses, which are generally required to become a licensed CPA.
A business administration degree typically includes both financial and managerial accounting.
One downside of WGU is that it is less transfer-friendly: it does not accept credits older than five years and does not allow room for elective credits.
You don’t have to earn a CPA license to work in accounting, but it’s usually preferable to have that option available. The CPA license has specific requirements, including a total of 150 college credits.

How is the WGU accounting degree superior? The only real complaint about UMPI I've seen is that some of the homework has you doing an older tax return. Does it really matter that much if its an older tax return when it's teaching you the same procedures? In what other way would WGU be superior? How can I join the UMPI discord?
I have 30 older credits, and since WGU won't accept them I would need to redo them, it would take a month or two at Sophia.
I'm heavily leaning towards going to UMPI right now, but I could still switch to WGU or some other place and not have lost too much time.
I'm in California and you don't need 150 credits anymore to get a CPA, it just changed this year.
One thing that worries me about WGU is that they're pass/fail.
I've heard people say you can't get accepted into a masters or phd program at many places because of not having any GPA.
I might want to do a masters at a "normal" university some day, like UCLA, UC Berkley, Yale... etc.

From everything I’ve read the bill was signed off in 2025 with an effective date of Jan 1, 2027
If you have a source showing otherwise though I would be delighted to see it
