UMPI Brother vs Sister Battle of 2022

I just wanted to come in and share an update on our initial term. Overall, we both have enjoyed the experience and consider the following as the highlights:

Academic Advisor - Jessica is a rock star and just a delight to work with. I don't know how she keeps such a positive spirit while managing the student count. Rarely does a day go by without a clear response to a question. Responses even happen on the weekend; I tend to feel guilty when pressing send because I think I am breaking her away from a little piece.

Courses: Straightforward and with respectable effort, the overall program is very manageable. The final assessment for the whole grade is an excellent system, and with two attempts available to you, the program is structured for you to succeed.

Speed: If one chooses,  a tremendous amount of work can be accomplished in a term. My initial thought was to attempt to complete everything in one term; however, my father shared some words with me early into the program:

"Finishing in one term only matters for your ego, so take moments to enjoy the journey of completing this chapter in your life."

Keep in mind that he is the same person who did not take this into account years ago and was a maniac going from 0-120 in under 6 months to complete his BSBA at TESU and then knocked out his MSML & MBA both in one term (each) at WGU. However, after the moment, his advice comes from wishing he had enjoyed it a little more.

Even with these words, I was a little bit of a mini-maniac at times; however, I tried to remind myself to savor the victories of a course completed. I could have celebrated more, but I am a work in progress.

On the fence about whether to knock out some more classes this term since there are only a couple of classes left for the BABA. This is the last week to submit a draft for a course,  so it limits a little of the flexibility if you have aspirations for a high GPA. After this week, you either nailed that 'A' on the first and only attempt or that 'B' is your grade (technically, you could also fail). 

I am entertaining the idea of adding another major (Project Management or Supply Chain Management). Since I will complete the degree early into a second term, it's more than doable. My father has a celebration trip to the Dominic Republic once my sister and I complete our degrees, so a second major might only delay what I am sure will be an epic adventure.

To keep it short, my sister is only two courses behind me in her degree and will finish early into her second term. She has zero interest in adding a minor or major. 

The only real battle we have at this point is our GPA. Once the term is done, I can confirm, but I think I might have a slight edge at this point! We both might only end up taking extra classes to secure the higher GPA 

You did 11 courses so far. That's a lot of work done and plenty to pad your ego. 

With Project Management both MIS and Project Management will be listed on your transcript.

The Project Management degree contains all the MIS minor requirements.

In terms of jobs, it probably won't matter if you have a double degree so I would take it if you have an interest in the subject.

Completely agree with the value of a double degree, especially for business degrees. I do like the combo of Project Management & Marketing degree; however, when mapping it out, I don't see a path to complete the Marketing degree in one term without feeling overextended. If UMPI had a BA in Psychology, that would be one I would pursue.

Due to just having time on my hands in the new term, I am sure I'll end up taking something for the fun of it.

@KSoul, they do have a BA Psychology online (and English or History), but not on the YourPace learning system. You should stick with your original goal of that first degree with one major/concentration. If you wanted, you can always add a minor instead of a double major. The most important is to get the degree requirements completed and then tinker with the extra courses you can take, it doesn't have to be part of the degree, these courses can go in the "other field" and show on your transcripts...

What course at Study.com did you take that transferred for UMPI, HUM 103?

Humanities 201: Critical Thinking & Analysis. My sister did the course at UMPI, which was one paper vs. three (Study) so keep that in mind. I was casual with this selection and would have selected a second UL course instead in a do-over. My initial thought was to ensure I had finished all of the GEC requirements before starting. It's not necessary, so I would suggest looking for one paper option at Study.com. There are about 5-7 transfer options for the BABA degrees in the 800-1500 word range and the larger ones in the 2500 range..

If you don't mind, how did you find the Google Analytics certificate? How long did it take you?

I'm in the process of maximising transfer credits, the certificate is intriguing to me, but have to size up the effort Vs reward vs desire ratios...

Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate

I enjoy the subject, so really not a good example to use for the course duration. In addition, I put my full attention into the course, which is also a huge reason I could knock it out. Long build up to answer that Coursera has a 7-day free trial $39 a month membership.

The course was free for me. 

My sister is a rock star in math - she signed up for ALEKS a few years back and, in one month, did College Algebra, PreCalculus,  Introduction to Statistics Business, and Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences. I went into ALEKS thinking I would have a similar experience, and let's say, I fell a little short.

You will enjoy the Google course. It is challenging and also very rewarding. You feel like you have accomplished something cool when you finish.

FYI -

Coursera Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate transfers in as:

3 credits for BUS 245
6 credits for COS 1XX (elective credits) 

If you are interested in the BABA Project Management it fills BUS 245 course + 6 electives. And for any other degree, it gives you 9 electives. If you can finish the 7-day trial that's 9 credits for free and even if it takes one-two months, that's 9 credits for $39-$78 dollars.

Innnnnnnnnnteresting. I need to fill BUS 245 and I've been meaning to take a couple of those Google certs in all the free time I don't have.

I took the Google Data Analytics course about a month or two ago (with the American dream academy, it's free with no time limit). It was very easy for me even though I have no experience whatsoever in that field. 

It transferred in as 12 credits for me. 3 for BUS 245 and 9 elective credits.  You can't beat 12 free credits (and a certification to put on your resume  ).

They were initially slotted for BUS Electives only, except BUS 245, which was approved before starting. My sister felt bad for pushing back for another review after the second review came back with the same results; however, to her credit and the support of Jessica, it was escalated up the chain and officially approved today. Here are the following transfers that she has slotted into her BSBA Project Management degree:

I'm confused about BUS400 & BUS440. UMPI transferred in the same Project Management certificate twice?

I was wondering if that came in different for 2 separate people. hmm

I just updated the Wiki when I saw through the UMPI database that they were taking 2 of the IBM certs and the Google project management cert.  I guess 2nd/3rd review changed things.
